Absolutely superb from Kylian Mbappe. But just moments before his sensational run we finally saw a flash of the real Lionel Messi, let down by a poor touch from Ever Banega who gave the ball away.

It's a ridiculous challenge by Rojo. It is Banega who gives the ball away and Mbappe shows great determination. It's a penalty and I don't know what Rojo is thinking

Wonderful play by Kylian Mbappe - but terrible defending by Marcos Rojo - and France have a penalty.

Mbappe picks the ball up midway in his own half and runs 60 yards or more, speeding away from every Argentine. He bursts into the box but in a slightly wide position and Rojo barges him to the ground.

France are so close to leading. Paul Pogba stands over the free-kick and takes a few strides back, Jonny Wilkinson-style, like he's going to take it...

so it catches some people off guard when Antoine Griezmann hits a fantastic effort which comes back off the crossbar.

Lots of misplaced passes so far - the game hasn't got going at all.

Now Javier Mascherano slides in on Kylian Mbappe and concedes a free-kick in a dangerous position. That really is a pace mismatch.

This is the loudest game I've been to out here. The Argentina fans really are getting behind their team. How many more chances will they get to cheer on Lionel Messi at a World Cup?
