    FT: Middlesbrough 0-1 Aston Villa

Thanks for your company this evening. Aston Villa are now just a home draw away from a Wembley play-off final... But Middlesbrough won't be giving up just yet.

You can read Matt Newsum's first-leg report from the Riverside here.

The Championship play-off semi-finals will resume on Monday, as Fulham host Derby, before Villa and Boro meet again on Tuesday.

Do be sure to join us again for those two second legs.

But before then, you can now join my colleague Owen Phillips for Coventry v Notts County in the League Two play-offs, which is getting under way shortly, right here.

From me, it's good night. Cheers.

The fist-pumping, veins-popping celebrations from Robert Snodgrass are evidence of the delight amongst the Villa squad, as they went to celebrate with their raucous mob in the corner.

Unsurprisingly their fans are delighted, not even tempered by the prospect of a tedious cross-country journey back to the second city on a Saturday night.

Middlesbrough's supporters clapped them off the field as they headed for the dressing rooms. Their performance improved as time ticked on but a lack of genuine, bona fide chances were their downfall.

If anyone can instill an underdog mentality going to Villa Park on Tuesday, then it's Tony Pulis. No one will be writing Boro off yet, but it's a tough ask all the same.

"We had to defend very well. We went too deep in the second half and it was very difficult, but we'll take that and we look forward to Tuesday.

    "It's a small advantage."

Fabio has looked bright since coming on for Boro. He wins them a throw-in, near the corner flag.

But play has to stop for a moment, as Villa's Ahmed Elmohamady is holding his hamstring. That'll halt any small momentum that the hosts may have wanted to build up. Villa will just hope Elmohamady is alright.
