    Fulham 0-0 Crystal Palace

Bright moments from Ryan Sessegnon in the box - the 16-goal man from last season collects a smart pass from Tom Cairney before cutting back for Andre Schurrle but the German can't quite reach the cross. Clever movement from the 18-year-old English winger Sessegnon.

Nice movement from Wilfried Zaha, who drops deep to collect, spins sharply away from his man and is brought down by Calum Chambers. It was a disguised pass from Mamadou Sakho into him - it was tidy.

The free-kick is floated in and James Tomkins stretches but can't get any power on his flicked header on goal. Fabri - the former Besiktas keeper one of seven players on debut for Fulham - collects with ease.

    Fulham 0-0 Crystal Palace

It's a decent game this, good quality on show from both sides. Patrick van Aanholt bolts down the left and drills in a cross Wilfried Zaha is inches away from on the slide. Fulham win the ball back and pass around the middle in slick fashion.

    Fulham 0-0 Crystal Palace

Good noise from the home fans celebrating their return to the Premier League - four years ago Fulham were relegated.

Aleksandr Mitrovic at the heart of things already, holding the ball up well as the volume rises.

Cyrus Christie pings a shot from range which Wayne Hennessey palms around the post. A lively start!

The style Fulham were playing in the Championship is as good as I've seen in that league. Can they replicate that?

The calibre of player they have brought in is a cut above so Fulham will be very good this season.

A 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace back in May 2014 marked the end of Premier League football for Fulham but a repeat of that fixture begins life back in the top flight for the Whites.

Slavisa Jokanovic has realised the need for new faces and heavy recruitment has only raised the level of anticipation. Palace need only to go back to the opening day of last season, when they were well beaten by Huddersfield, to be warned of the potential momentum of a play-off winner.

Revered ex-Fulham boss Roy Hodgson returns to the club where he will always have a place in history, but determined to mark his 71st birthday on Thursday in positive fashion.

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic: "It's important to show ambition and desire to stay up - that's our first target.

"We're building a team to be competitive at this level. We've made a great investment in the transfer market and I'm hoping we'll see an immediate benefit."

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson: "We know more than most (after Palace lost all seven of their opening fixtures last season) what a bad start can bring.

"We just need to make sure we are fully prepared for the first game and make a good game of it. We feel we're ready."

Roy Hodgson - there's been a warm welcome for the man who led Fulham to the Europa League final in 2010.

He left the club for Liverpool that summer - and four years later the Cottagers were relegated.

Roy Hodgson's rejuvenation (and his own rehabilitation from his England managerial nightmare) cannot be underestimated as Palace were transformed from looking relegation certainties to surviving playing excellent football.

Now Hodgson can build on that and I fully expect a season without those relegation worries at one of the Premier League's most atmospheric arenas at Selhurst Park.

The retention of Wilfried Zaha keeps a priceless asset, Cheikhou Kouyate will provide presence in midfield while Max Meyer arrives from Schalke with a big reputation.

Keeping hold of Wilfried Zaha was massive for Crystal Palace because he makes such a difference to their team.

It is going to be interesting to see how new Eagles midfielder Max Meyer gets on in the Premier League too, after his arrival from Schalke.

Fulham have signed a lot of players following their promotion so I am not sure what to expect from them.

But it is sure to be a good atmosphere at their first game back in the top flight since 2014, and I am backing them to start with a win.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-1

Fulham were promoted playing superb football in the Championship last season under a progressive manager in Slavisa Jokanovic and nothing has happened this summer to suggest that development will not continue.

They have kept their superb young prospect Ryan Sessegnon, a certain future England international, and pulled off a genuine coup in signing the coveted Jean Michael Seri from Nice.

Add the experience of Germany World Cup winner Andre Schurrle and defensive strength from the likes of Alfie Mawson and Calum Chambers, and there is no reason to feel any concerns for the Cottagers this season, particularly since their deadline-day signings made them the first promoted club to spend in excess of £100m.

    Predicition: 11th

There are seven new signings in the Fulham starting XI if we include Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who made last season's loan move permanent over the summer.

Fabri, the on-loan Calum Chambers, Joe Bryan, Jean Michael Seri, Maxime le Marchand and Andre Schurrle are all making their Fulham debuts today.

On the bench, there are three more new faces representing the club's over £100m post-season spend: Luciano Vietto, Sergio Rico and Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

Fulham XI: Fabri, Christie, Chambers, Le Marchand, Bryan, Cairney, McDonald, Seri, Schurrle, Mitrovic, Ryan Sessegnon.

Subs: Kebano, Johansen, Vietto, Fosu-Mensah, Sergio Rico, Cisse, Kamara.

No new faces in Crystal Palace's starting line-up as Roy Hodgson returns to Craven Cottage.

Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey keeps his place ahead of summer arrival Vicente Guaita, who is on the bench alongside another new signing in Cheikhou Kouyate but there is no Jordan Ayew, and as expected Max Meyer is not fit enough to make the squad.

Palace XI: Hennessey, Wan Bissaka, Tomkins, Sakho, Van Aanholt, Townsend, Milivojevic, McArthur, Schlupp, Benteke, Zaha.

Subs: Ward, Kouyate, Sorloth, Souare, Guaita, Kelly, Riedewald.

    Afternoon all.

The Premier League is back! But then you know that already.

Fulham are back too - and they've spent over £100m on signings since arriving from the Championship. No promoted side has ever spent more over the course of one summer.

Will it pay off? The story starts today, and the visitors at Craven Cottage are Crystal Palace.

Roy Hodgson's side, making the short trip across the Thames, have added three new faces to a side that started last season in disastrous fashion before finishing strongly.

    Here we go...
