Joselu muscles Shkodran Mustafi off the ball before whipping in a cross.

It looked promising but Matt Ritchie was penalised for a foul before anything could come of it.

Arsenal haven't gotten hold of this game. Newcastle are the better side, creating more chances and exploiting the open spaces.

Much was made before the game of the partnership between Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, they have not even been in the game. Arsenal can't string two passes together, but that's to the credit of Newcastle.

The home fans are enjoying themselves when Petr Cech gets the ball and there was plenty of appreciation for Jacob Murphy's determination just then.

The Englishman covered plenty of ground to put the Arsenal goalkeeper under pressure, forcing Cech to kick it long.

Foxx_Bat: Maybe Arsenal do look worse this year but it is hardly a surprise? Players learning a new philosophy and some of them can't or won't be able to do it. It will take time. I'm still enjoying it because at least I don't know what will happen! Give them time.

    Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal

Lovely play from Arsenal sees Alexandre Lacazette feed Aaron Ramsey into the Newcastle penalty area but the 27-year-old hits his effort well over the bar.

    Much better from the visitors.

The Magpies win a corner as a result - it's headed out for another corner and again Arsenal do enough to clear their lines.

In fact, Ayoze Perez was deemed offside for that one.

    Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal

Arsenal are up in Newcastle's half now and have enjoyed much more possession in the last few minutes.

But the Newcastle defence is holding firm and the Magpies are keen to counter attack as soon as they win the ball back.

Andrew Walker: I'm going to say it... Arsenal looking worse then they did last season. Team still lacking an identity and need one, fast.

    Side-netting!

The resulting free-kick falls to Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette, who opens up space for the shot but he can't find the right side of Martin Dubravka's post.

The Gunners are slowly growing into this one.

That is until Matt Ritchie brings down Alexandre Lacazette. Arsenal free-kick. Danger?

    Chance!

Petr Cech is called into action again, this time coming out to parry a cross to safety.

Once again, there were plenty of black and white Newcastle shirts waiting for that one to fall kindly...

    That could have been costly.

Shkodran Mustafi stumbles as Jacob Murphy charges past the Arsenal defender but he can't take advantage.

You almost expect something to happen every time Petr Cech is given the ball.

There's no time for the Arsenal back-line, but they seem determined to play it out regardless of the situation.

    An accident waiting to happen.

    Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez said in the build-up to this match that he has known Unai Emery for a "long, long time" and it certainly looks as if he knows the Arsenal manager's tactics pretty well.

It's all Newcastle at St James' Park.

    And another corner!

Newcastle are carrying the early threat and Petr Cech passes it out for a third corner under growing pressure from the home side.

Arsenal look hesitant at the back, very promising for the Magpies.

Defeat for Newcastle this afternoon would equal their worst ever return from their opening five Premier League fixtures.

It's difficult to know how much to really take from that given their opening fixtures however and they've certainly started with plenty of energy here.
