Clashes of style don’t come much more pronounced than Cardiff City and Manchester City.

Neil Warnock’s newly promoted side are a physical, obdurate side dependent on set-pieces and still searching for a first win of the season.

Their opponents, meanwhile, are the free-scoring reigning champions regarded as one of the finest teams to have graced the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola’s great entertainers have, however, dropped points against a promoted side this season, drawing 1-1 with Wolves.

Asked if he was looking forward to testing himself against the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss, Warnock joked yesterday: "I like to pit my wits against managers with teams I think we can beat!

“He's just a top class manager. With what he's done, you want your kids to see football like that.”

In timely fashion, both sides make their way out at a wet and miserable Cardiff City Stadium.

It is absolutely bucketing it down.

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock makes two changes from last Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Chelsea. Left-back Greg Cunningham makes his first league start for the Bluebirds, which means Joe Bennett – whose foul on Leroy Sane was the main controversy of January’s FA Cup tie here – drops to the bench. Right-back Lee Peltier comes in for Sol Bamba in the other change, which sees Bruno Ecuele Manga switch to central defence.

Cardiff XI: Etheridge; Peltier, Ecuele Manga, Morrison, Cunningham; Camarasa, Arter, Ralls; Reid, Hoilett, Ward.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola makes two changes from Tuesday’s surprising home loss to Lyon in the Champions League. Centre-back Nicolas Otamendi replaces John Stones, while midfielder David Silva drops to the bench and there is a recall for Sergio Aguero up front.

Man City XI: Ederson; Walker, Otamendi, Laporte, Delph; Fernandinho, Gundogan, Bernardo Silva; Sterling, Sane, Aguero.

Speaking of Manchester City's midweek defeat by Lyon, Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock doesn't think it will give his side an advantage today.

"It's a blip and might give them a kick up the backside," he said.

"I don't think it helps us at all. They made a few changes and looked a lot stronger when they put the regulars on in the second half.

"When I watch them I think 'thank goodness we only play them twice'."

Thumbs up if you're back in the dugout.

Pep Guardiola returns to the sidelines after his midweek ban as his Manchester City side aim to atone for their midweek Champions League defeat by Lyon.

Their opponents today? A Cardiff City side who are still in search of a first win since their return to the Premier League.

    Kick-off is coming very soon.
