    So an emphatic and easy victory for Liverpool, who can rightly have supreme confidence in how they are playing right now.

    Southampton? Well, meh is probably about the best word to sum them up today.

    Jurgen Klopp's side go top of the table with their sixth straight Premier League win, having also beaten Paris St-Germain in their Champions League opener on Tuesday.

    Southampton fall to 14th. The visitors weren't totally abject but that early own goal wrecked their gameplan and they had no answer.

    Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have the Saints defence retreating and panicking but Mane's ball through to Salah is delayed and the Egypt winger is offside again.

    The ball is bobbling around the Saints area after the Egypt winger gets free down the right and slides in a cross before heading off the pitch.

    It finally breaks to James Milner, whose effort is blocked into the path of the returning Salah as he swings it into the net.

    Salah streaks off in celebration but the flag is up and that's rightly disallowed for offside.

    If you dropped into this game and the score wasn't visible, you might think Southampton were defending with their lives to hold onto a 1-0 lead.

    Instead their defending deep trying not to be on the end of a thrashing.

    Another ball over the top sees Liverpool win their fourth corner of the game.

    James Milner tries to bend in a pass round the corner to find the onrushing Sadio Mane but Alex McCarthy is on hand.

    Again Mane gets in down the left and again McCarthy scurries out to deal with the threat.

    But that damage is so extensive, there is clearly no way back in this game for the Saints. It's so comfortable for Liverpool right now.
