    Martin Fisher
    Match of the Day commentator

Burnley's slow start to the season has deteriorated into a major slump. Six losses in an eight-game winless streak has left them stuck in the relegation zone.

While other strugglers have dispensed with their managers recently, don't expect the Turf Moor suits to follow suit. They know the club is in safe hands. In Sean Dyche they trust.

There were clear signs of improvement against Liverpool and they'll need to maintain those levels against a Brighton side looking for their third victory in a row.

With Shane Duffy suspended and Glenn Murray an injury doubt, Burnley might be catching them at the right time.

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

Sean Dyche's side have been too nice to play against this season, so it was nice to see them snarling again against Liverpool.

I think Burnley will need a phase of that if they are going to climb out of trouble, starting with the visit of Brighton.

    Prediction: 2-0

I reckon Burnley v Brighton could be so late on Match of the Day that it will be after the bit with the Sunday papers.

Sean Dyche names an unchanged line-up to the one that lost to Liverpool on Wednesday, despite putting in a much-improved performance.

Joe Hart starts in goal and will make his 400th league appearance in English football, while James Tarkowski makes his second start since returning from injury, and Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood lead the line.

Burnley starting XI: Hart; Bardsley, Mee, Tarkowski, Taylor; Gudmundsson, Westwood, Cork, Brady; Barnes, Wood.

Subs: Heaton, Lowton, Long, Hendrick, Lennon, Vydra, Vokes.

Meanwhile, Chris Hughton makes four changes to the side that beat Crystal Palace in midweek.

Shane Duffy misses out through suspension, Jose Izquierdo drops out through injury, Martin Montoya does not make the squad and Glenn Murray can only make the bench.

Club captain and veteran defender Bruno comes in to the back line, as does Leon Balogun. While Anthony Knockaert and Florin Andone - who has scored in his last two league outings - start in attack.

Brighton starting XI: Ryan; Bruno, Dunk, Balogun, Bernardo; March, Bissouma, Propper, Knockaert; Gross, Andone.

Subs: Steele, Bong, White, Stephens, Kayal, Locadia, Murray.

  15. 'Brighton should get a point'published at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2018

    Burnley v Brighton (15:00 GMT)

    Warren Aspinall
    Ex-Brighton striker on BBC Sussex

It's one Brighton should get at least a point from. Tuesday was a great result, but that's gone now.

If Chris Hughton comes away with nothing today, I think the last two games will have meant nothing. You have to beat the teams around you.

  16. 'Europa League not all it's cracked up to be'published at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2018

    Burnley v Brighton (15:00 GMT)

    Steve Sidwell
Brighton coach on BBC Radio 5 live

I think Burnley are a victim of their own success. They did so well last season and punched above their own weight. A few teams last year had dips but they kept charging through.

I’ve played the Europa League and it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. It all depends on the squad if you can handle it. And the Burnley squad couldn’t.

If you got 100 Premier League players, the majority would say they would prefer not to be in the Europa League.

    Burnley v Brighton (15:00 GMT)

Burnley come into this one without a win in their past eight league games, but they did put in an encouraging performance in the 3-1 defeat by Liverpool on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Brighton have won their past two Premier League matches, including a thumping M23 derby victory over Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

However, recent form aside, the history books suggest it will be close. The past five league meetings have all ended in draws - and last season, both clashes were goalless.

Let's hope there's some goals today!
