Summary

  • Solskjaer's first home game in charge

  • Manchester United haven’t lost a home league game on Boxing Day since 1978-79

  1. CLOSE!published at 43 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Huddersfield

    Marcus Rashford is purring now.

The fluid attacking movement sees him pick the ball up on the right edge of the box on this occasion and he laces a drive just wide of the far post.

Rash-Ford? More like Rash-Ferrari at the moment.

  2. CLOSE!published at 40 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Huddersfield

    Should be two.

Brilliant stuff from Marcus Rashford, making mince meat of Mathias Jorgensen, holding the Huddersfield defender off before nuttmegging him down the left wing.

The England international swings a cross deep to the back post for the onrushing Diogo Dalot, but the Portguese side-foots a volley wide from 10 yards out.

The full-back has to do better from there.

    Man Utd 1-0 Huddersfield

The hosts are piling the pressure on with a succession of corners, the last of which is swung straight into the hands of Jonas Lossl by Juan Mata.

    Poor that.

    Man Utd 1-0 Huddersfield

All United now with swift passing and movement, lovely to watch.

Juan Mata has a snapshot from inside the box but it deflects away from danger.

    Man Utd 1-0 Huddersfield

Fred showing some samba-style footwork on the edge of the box, but is dispossessed and the ball breaks loose for Paul Pogba, whose shot is tamely into the hands of Jonas Lossl.

So tame it barely reached the Huddersfield goalkeeper.

I don't think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was overly impressed with the first 25 minutes but he was delighted with that.

The home fans have reacted as you would expect, with a rendition of Solskjaer songs.

There is a buzz about Old Trafford that, the biggest games apart, has been absence virtually since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

  7. CLOSE!published at 31 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Huddersfield

Huddersfield also come close with their first corner of the game as Alex Pritchard's kick is flicked on, but cleared off the line by Luke Shaw.

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 30 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Huddersfield

United are keen to get the ball back as they sniff the floodgates opening but Fred is too enthusiastic in the tackle and brings down Alex Pritchard from behind.

    Booking for the Brazilian.

  9. goal

    Breakthrough.

First corner of the game, first goal.

Marcus Rashford swings in the corner which is flicked towards goal by Victor Lindelof and Jonas Lossl keeps it out with a superb reflex save.

But Nemanja Matic reacts quickest to pop the ball into the net from a yard out.

That brings Ole Gunnar Solskjaer out of his seat with a beaming smile on his face.

  10. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Huddersfield

It's Paul Pogba who takes charge of the ball ahead of Juan Mata, but the strike comes off the top of the wall and away for a corner.

  11. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Huddersfield

Paul Pogba starting to grow into the game now.

The midfielder is bundled off the ball by Mathias Jorgensen and United have a free-kick in a promising position, 25 yards out.

  12. CLOSE!published at 26 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Huddersfield

Just two or three passes and United are into the Huddersfield box, in stark contrast to the style of Jose Mourinho.

Paul Pogba is picked out on the left edge of the box, but the Frenchman curls a shot straight at Jonas Lossl.

  13. Postpublished at 24 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Huddersfield

A quick word on United's bench today.

The only player of any real attacking threat is 18-year-old Angel Gomes - he may be needed late on to turn the game for the hosts.

Did Ole Gunnar Solskjaer register himself as a player too...?

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 22 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Huddersfield

    Professional foul.

United were breaking at pace via Marcus Rashford, but Elias Kachunga chops the forward down with an uncompromising tackle and is the first man into referee Jon Moss' book.

A "good" foul, as they say. Try telling Rashford that - he's hobbling quite heavily.

  15. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Huddersfield

United scored early against Cardiff but have made few inroads into Huddersfield so far.

The longer it goes on, the more they will get nervy.

  16. CLOSE!published at 15 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Huddersfield

United have had over 70% possession so far and work Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl for the first time.

Jesse Lingard, with four goals in his last four games, attempts a dipping effort from 25 yards out but it is straight down the throat of the Terriers stopper.

  17. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Huddersfield

From what we have seen so far, Huddersfield do not look like a side that are currently bottom of the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spent a good chunk of time at the edge of his technical area.

    The pointing was all forward.

When he went back to his seat, Solskjaer was making a motion with his hands that suggested he does not believe Manchester United are moving the ball quickly enough.

  19. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Huddersfield

United working the ball forward quickly, with one-two touch passing.

Fred out wide to Juan Mata, into the box towards Marcus Rashford but the England international cannot stretch enough to get a shot away.

    Better from the hosts.

  20. WHAT A MISS!published at 10 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Huddersfield

Oh this is a bad miss, he has to bury this!

The long throw from Philip Billing causes confusion at the back for Manchester United, as Erik Durm flicks a header of for Terence Kongolo, but the Swiss defender leans back and slashes a shot into the Stretford End from six yards out.
