  1. Back to Premiership businesspublished at 22:00 British Summer Time 23 August 2018

Rangers and Celtic head back to Scottish Premiership duty on Sunday in contrasting mood - Steven Gerrard content at a 1-0 lead over Ufa and Brendan Rodgers' frustrated by defensive frailties in his side's 1-1 draw with Suduva.

Gerrard's side travel to face Motherwell on Sunday as Rodgers will no doubt take the chance to rest a few players at home to Hamilton Academical.

But, before then, there are four games on Saturday.

In the game of the day, Hibs, fourth-top last season, host runners-up Aberdeen, while early leaders Hearts visit Kilmarnock.

  2. Glasgow duo heading through?published at 21:52 British Summer Time 23 August 2018

It's so far so good for the Old Firm in the Europa League play-off round.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was in downbeat mood after the 1-1 draw with Suduva in Lithuania.

But the Scottish champions must be strong favourites to progress.

Glasgow rivals Rangers, meanwhile, only have a narrow lead against Ufa, but with two draws and a victory away from home so far in Europa League qualifying, Steven Gerrard's rebuilt side will head to Russia with plenty of confidence.

Looking at Rangers' defence at the minute, I've got no fears about them away from home in Russia. I am fairly confident they will go through

  4. FULL-TIME Rangers 1-0 Ufapublished at 21:38 British Summer Time 23 August 2018

Job done for Rangers in terms of not conceding an away goal.

Job done, winning the first leg through Connor Goldson's first-half poacher's goal.

Job done in extending their unbeaten run to 10 games since Steven Gerrard took charge at Ibrox.

But a 1-0 lead is a wafer thin lead and there is still much work to be done for the former Liverpool captain's side in Russia next week.

  5. YELLOW CARD Connor Goldsonpublished at 90+2

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

Rangers scorer Connor Goldson is booked as Ufa win a free-kick and apply a bit of late pressure.

  6. Postpublished at 90mins

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

Ufa equalised in stoppage time last week to oust Progres Niederkorn.

Could history repeat itself in this first leg at Ibrox as we enter the last three minutes?

  7. Double change for Ufapublished at 88mins

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

Ondrej Vanek and Catalin Carp have come on for Azamat Zaseyev and Ivan Oblyakov for Ufa. A double change in midfield.

  8. Postpublished at 86mins

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

Rangers have had most of the play at Ibrox, but there's only a few minutes left and they still only have that Connor Goldson goal to show for it - and they haven't tested Ufa goalkeeper Aleksander Belenov on too many occasions.

  9. Lafferty makes his markpublished at 21:27 British Summer Time 23 August 2018

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

It took Kyle Lafferty, this week's signing from Hearts, two minutes to make his return to Rangers felt - with a yellow card!

  10. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 77mins

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

A big shout for a spot-kick as substitute Glenn Middleton goes flying to the surface inside the penalty box with about his first touch of the ball under pressure from Dmitri Zhivoglyadov.

  11. Middleton replaces Kentpublished at 76mins

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

Ryan Kent has done plenty of running for Rangers and the on-loan Liverpool winger is replaced with Glenn Middleton.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 75mins

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

Ufa midfielder Azamat Zaseyev is the next player to go into the book. Ryan Kent is bundled over midway in the Ufa half.

  13. Big attendance at Ibroxpublished at 75mins

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

The official crowd at Ibrox is 49,338. Not too shabby.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 73mins

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

    Well, that took him long...

Kyle Lafferty is on the pitch for little over two minutes and he goes into the book. A stray leg while jumping for a header catches Jemal Tabidze.

  15. Postpublished at 71mins

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

Ryan Kent shows his trickery to beat his marker and fires a couple of feet over the Ufa crossbar from 22 yards.

  16. Lafferty on for Candeiaspublished at 69mins

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is obviously keen to head to Russia with a healthier lead and sends on another striker.

And it means a return to action in the light blue for Kyle Lafferty, the Northern Ireland international who was signed this week from Hearts.

The man who left Rangers for Sion in 2012 replaces winger Daniel Candeias.

  17. Kent a threat against redspublished at 21:11 British Summer Time 23 August 2018

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

On-loan Liverpool winger Ryan Kent has been one of Rangers' biggest threats against Ufa.

  18. Postpublished at 59mins

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

It was end-to-end stuff between Ufa and Progres Niederkorn as the Russians edged through on aggregate with a stoppage-time equaliser in Luxembourg last week, but this time Sergei Tomarov's side are doing most of the defending.

Whether that was their plan, or Rangers' tactics have forced them to be so negative, the visitors are holding on for dear life at the moment.

  19. YELLOW CARDpublished at 57mins

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

Nigernian forward Sylvester Igboun goes in the book for a foul on Connor Goldson.

  20. Pressure building from Rangerspublished at 55mins

    Rangers 1-0 Ufa

It's been a subdued start to the second half with Rangers building slowly, but Steven Gerrard's men are unlucky not to double their lead.

Good build-up play from Scott Arfield leads to a goalmouth scramble as goalkeeper Aleksandr Belenov scrambles the ball clear.

In the next phase of play, the ball falls to Alfredo Morelos, but the Colombian drags his effort wide.
