Quote MessageI thought it was quite disciplined from Scotland. There wasn't that crazy disorientation we saw in Israel and this side is better. But they got suckered Scotland at the end. They had a couple of chances and it's a well-worked goal. It's a horrible time for Scotland after doing a lot of decent things. It's a familiar positions, it's a real kick in the teeth
It had looked promising for Scotland, but a debut goal for Helder Costa gives Portugal the lead at the break.
Alex McLeish's side, anxious to make amends for Thursday's defeat in Israel, started well, although the only save goalkeeper Beto had to make was from the head of his own midfielder, Sergio Oliveira.
Scotland had the better of the early possession, but a Portugal side almost completely changed from their win over Poland gradually began to threaten and got their reward just before the break.
Wolves forward Costa had been quiet before providing a real sickener for the home side.
Helder Costa
The warning signs have been there and Portugal make the breakthrough.
Kevin Rodriguez whips in a low cross and Helder Costa stabs it home from close range after holding off the challenge of Andy Robertson.

Quote MessageThat's a big moment. He manages to wriggle some room, McKenna loses his balances but by the time he recovers Eder has had the strike.
Scotland 0-0 Portugal
Bruma turns provider and finds strike partner Eder deep inside the penalty box.
Despite the presence of Scott McKenna, the Lokomotiv Moscow man manages to shoot on the turn.
Fortunately for Scotland, it is straight at Craig Gordon and the goalkeeper manages to beat it away.
Scotland 0-0 Portugal
Portugal go close and it is that man Bruma again.
The Leipzig forward is showing he a nippy character inside the penalty box and meets a low cross to the front post but can only flick his shot wide.

Quote MessageIt was a good chance, but he was a little bit unfortunate. He had to stoop down quite low. Scotland are playing with a lot of confidence and enthusiasm. James Forrest has been at the heart of it
Scotland 0-0 Portugal
James Forrest, on a high after last weekend's four goals for Celtic, curls in a cross that finds Steven Naismith 12 yards out.
It is slightly behind the forward, but he stoops athletically to flick a header that curls wide of Portugal's far post.

Quote MessageWe have fallen out the game a bit. Portugal have upped the tempo and it is important we get back on the ball

Quote MessageSolid start by Scotland. All of that defensive disorientation we saw against Israel on Thursday is not in evidence so far tonight. Four at the back this time, of course. A long way to go, but, if anything, you’d say that the Scots are on top
Scotland 0-0 Portugal
Sergio Oliveira's through ball causes Scotland more problems and, when the ball falls to Bruma, the striker ought to do better than drive low past the far post from 15 yards out.
Scotland 0-0 Portugal
A cleverly chipped pass finds Bruma drifting in behind the Scottish defence, but the Leipzig forward is unable to control and it rests in the arms of goalkeeper Craig Gordon.
An offside flag might have been risen had he gathered in any case.
Scotland 0-0 Portugal
Portugal's turn to throw a hopeful cross into the penalty box, but Eder heads well wide under pressure from Scott McKenna.
Scotland 0-0 Portugal
Andy Robertson's cross finds Steven Naismith this time, but the Hearts forward gets his header all wrong and it flies high into the sunny evening sky.
Scotland 0-0 Portugal
Scotland create a threat of their own as Scott McKenna rises at the back post but heads straight at goalkeeper Beto.
Scotland 0-0 Portugal
So close to a stunning own goal. Sergio Oliviera rises to meet a James Forrest cross and the Porto midfielder heads powerfully towards the Portuguese net before goalkeeper Beto rises to tip it over the crossbar.
Scotland 0-0 Portugal
Portugal win a free-kick 18 yards from goal as Scott McKenna makes a clumsy challenge from behind on Eder.
Sergio Oliviera's free-kick is straight into the Scotland wall and the first real goal threat is averted.
