To be honest, it's hard to see what Real Madrid really have to play for in the league at this stage. Even with a win today, they are still nine points off top spot.

And they are eight points above the Europa League places.

Levante v Real Madrid (19:45 GMT)

Real Madrid are 12 points behind leaders Barcelona, although this is a game in hand.

"We always look to cut the gap, it's our aim and that's what we prepare for," Santiago Solari said.

"We'd managed to do so and then last weekend we dropped points [losing 2-1 to Girona] and lost ground and we've got to close the gap again.

"Our duty is to fight for the La Liga title right until the end."

  7. 'Schedule is an extra challenge'published at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2019

Levante v Real Madrid (19:45 GMT)

Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari isn't too happy that they get a day less to prepare for Wednesday's Copa del Rey El Clasico against Barcelona.

Barca played yesterday, beating Sevilla 4-2 with a Lionel Messi hat-trick.

"We're not the ones that decide on the calendar and are treating it as an extra challenge", said Solari.

"We'll have to be wary against Levante because they're a side that have some very quick players up top."

  8. 'The idea is to win'published at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2019

Levante v Real Madrid (19:45 GMT)

Levante coach Paco Lopez: "The victory last week [4-1 at Celta Vigo] gave us confidence and we have proved this season that we are capable of overcoming adversity.

"In sport there are two types of people - those who win and those who lose.

"I'm talking about attitudes, and while we are always going to respect a rival like Real Madrid, the idea is to win."

  9. Team newspublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2019

Levante v Real Madrid (19:45 GMT)

Real Madrid make five changes from the team who lost 2-1 to Girona last weekend.

Luka Modric returns from suspension, while defenders Dani Carvajal, Sergio Reguilon and Nacho and forward Vinicius Jr all return.

Sergio Ramos is banned, with Alvaro Odriozola, Marcelo, Dani Ceballos and Marco Asensio dropped.

Two changes for Levante from their 4-1 win at Celta Vigo, both enforced.

Borja Mayoral is on loan from Real and ineligible to face his parent club and Coke is injured. Roger and Erick Cabaco are in.

Defender Tono is unavailable because he is in jail after being arrested on suspicion of extortion.
