Sam Kerr is no secret to women's football aficionados, but thanks to her performances in France she is on her way to becoming a household name in the wider sporting world.

Scorer of her country's opening goal in the 2019 tournament, she subsequently netted four more in their final group game win over Jamaica - you can check out those goals in the above video.

With 36 goals in 80 international caps and the captain's armband on her bicep, she will be leading her country from the front in every sense today.

For me, Sam Kerr came into the World Cup with a lot of pressure. She's now a poster girl for her goal scoring in the American league as well as the poster girl in Australia.

At the start of the tournament it wasn't going Australia's way but she is someone who has stepped up. She scored four in one game and I think she's living up to the hype.

No doubting who the Australia players are looking to forward to seeing. I've just seen a few of their fans in the stands with giant masks of Sam Kerr's face.

The hotshot striker is going for goal number six of the tournament, which would make her the outright top scorer.

    Germany 3-0 Nigeria

Germany became the first team to secure their place in the quarter-finals after beating Nigeria 3-0 earlier today.

Once again, VAR was at the heart of things. Check out the highlights below.

  6. England eyes watchingpublished at 19:40 British Summer Time 22 June 2019

This is a tie that the England players and fans will be watching with interest.

That's because whoever wins this game will play either Cameroon or the Lionesses - who play each other tomorrow - in the quarter-finals.

Both sides finished second in their respective groups with two wins and one defeat.

Australia beat Brazil and Jamaica 3-2 and 4-1 respectively in Group C but were beaten 2-1 by Italy.

Norway, meanwhile, kicked off their Women's World Cup campaign with a 3-0 win against Nigeria before being beaten 2-1 by France. They then rounded off the group stage with a 2-1 win against South Korea.

Just the one change for Norway from their win against South Korea in their final group game. Winger Karina Saevik comes in for Lisa-Marie Utland.

Despite thumping Jamaica 4-1 in their final group game, Australia make four changes.

Elise Kellond-Knight, Caitlin Foord, Tameka Yallop and Hayley Raso all come in to the starting XI.

There's no need for introductions, these two sides know each other very well.

This is the third time in the last four World Cups in which they have met. The previous two meetings ended in a 1-1 draw and a 2-1 win for Australia.

But this time things are different. Both those previous meetings were in the group stage. This is the first time they have faced off in a knockout game.

Strap yourselves in, this could prove to be THE game of the last 16 stage.
