Newcastle are playing three at the back with two wing-backs. Both these sides like to play on the counter-attack and will be thinking 'a win here will make us safe in the Premier League for another year'. There's an incentive for that but a point would still be a great result.

  10. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Crystal Palace

Back up the other end, Jeffrey Schlupp and Patrick van Aanholt link up nicely before the latter is called offside.

Newcastle v Crystal Palace (15:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

Newcastle played OK in Monday's defeat by Arsenal - looking fairly secure, but not exactly posing much of a threat.

It almost felt like they were trying to keep the score down, which isn't unusual for manager Rafael Benitez.

I would expect the Magpies to be a bit more adventurous on Saturday, and I can see then edging this one.

But both of these teams are safe anyway. It would be a massive shock if either of them went down.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-1

  18. Both clubs 'within touching distance of survival'published at 14:55 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Martin Fisher
    Match of the Day commentator

So close but not quite safe yet, both of these clubs are within touching distance of survival.

Newcastle have soared clear of the relegation zone on the back of their terrific home form. It's five wins in a row now, with Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez thrilling the Geordie faithful with their regular goal supply.

Palace have a terrible record at St James' Park but have produced their best results on the road this season, most spectacularly at Manchester City in December.

Tempting fate I know, but I can't see a repeat of their goalless draw at Selhurst Park in September.

  19. 'Good opportunity for both teams'published at 14:53 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

Newcastle v Crystal Palace (15:00 BST)

    Alan Shearer
Former England captain on Football Focus

A win for Crystal Palace or a win for Newcastle and they can forget about relegation. I’m sure that will be what the managers are saying to the players before the game.

Palace have got a good away record and Newcastle have been strong at home in the last few games. It’s a good opportunity for one of them.
