George Saville clumps a shot clear over the top at the end of a promising move, but the crowd are involved in the match once more.

Belarus are wobbling slightly. A crucial period in the game.

Just a reminder of what happened last time these two met.

In November's Nations League game, Germany led 2-0 until the final five minutes when Quincy Promes and then Virgil van Dijk scored to secure the Netherlands the draw to condemn their opponents to the drop.

    Same again?

  5. CLOSE!published at 52 mins

    Northern Ireland 1-1 Belarus

    Chances at both ends!

Kyle Lafferty sees a close-range shot magnificently clawed off the line by Andrei Kilmovich. The offside flag was up but neither knew.

And then the ball pinballs around the Northern Ireland penalty area, without ever finding a Belarussian foot.

I would like to see Jordan Jones and Niall McGinn get more of the ball on the flanks. In the latter end of the first half Jones was getting on the ball, showing his pace and giving them problems.

More Jordan Jones trickery down the left as he wiggles his snakehips and drifts in a cross.

That is meat and drink for Andrei Klimovich, but the Northern Ireland winger is the best player out there so far.

When you go in front the priority for the next four or five minutes is to make sure you don't concede. Mentally it is a challenge when you get ahead and are doing well and then soon after you find yourselves on level terms again, especially with the type of goal Northern Ireland conceded. How Michael O'Neill's team finished the half will give him and them cause for optimism.

    HT: Northern Ireland 1-1 Belarus

Northern Ireland have been making all the running at Windsor Park.

But Belarus have been the model of efficiency. Only one effort either on or off target and it has resulted in a goal.

  13. Big half to come for NIpublished at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2019

    Northern Ireland 1-1 Belarus

    Mark Sterling

Everything had been sailing along quite nicely for Northern Ireland half an hour into the game.

An impressive, attacking performance was rewarded with a Jonny Evans headed goal and it looked like the home side would kick on from there, buoyed by a passionate home support that has rediscovered its voice.

Two minutes later and a deflected goal out of the blue from Igor Stasevich sends the sides into the break level.

It means a huge 45 minutes to come for Northern Ireland, and a half which could prove crucial to their chances of qualifying from the group come the autumn.

Niall McGinn takes up the invitation as the Belarus defence stands off, but his curling shot is set out too wide and lacks the revs to make it back on target.

He and Jordan Jones on the opposite wing look like Northern Ireland's likeliest source of another goal though.

Germany are loading up to land the knockout blow in Amsterdam.

Leroy Sane is slipped in by Serge Gnabry, but doesn't get hold of his shot, allowing Jasper Cillessen to get a paw to the bobbling shot.

That deserved more. Jordan Jones controls an awkward ball on the left touchline with a single touch, leaves two Belarus defenders hacking at thin air and then skims in a low cross that is just begging for a touch.

Kyle Lafferty is a little off the pace though.

  19. Where did that come from?published at 20:23 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2019

    Northern Ireland 1-1 Belarus

    Mark Sterling
BBC Sport NI at Windsor Park

If ever you couldn't have seen a goal coming, it was that deflected effort from Igor Stasevich.

And there is no doubt it has rocked the Windsor Park crowd. They may have kept singing in the seconds after the goal went in, but once realisation struck, quiet descended on the stands.

Northern Ireland need to regroup and get back to the crisp and confident football they played throughout the first half hour.
