    Germany 0-1 Northern Ireland

A lucky moment for Northern Ireland as the ball bounces off Craig Cathcart and he doesn't know anything about it, but luckily for him it is straight at Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

  3. HITS THE WOODWORK - Gundogan (Germany)published at 12 mins

    Germany 0-1 Northern Ireland

A second chance in a matter of seconds for Germany. Toni Kroos' floated ball to the back post is met by Ilkay Gunodgan and the Manchester City midfielder's header hits the post.

  4. GREAT SAVE!published at 10 mins

    Germany 0-1 Northern Ireland

Almost an immediate equaliser from the hosts. Serge Gnabry is free in the penalty area and connects perfectly, but what a save from Bailey Peacock-Farrell, a one-handed stop to keep the ball out from close range. Brilliant.

    Quote Message

It was perfectly hit on the half-volley. It barely got six inches off the ground. What a strike. The goalkeeper had no chance and it was the perfect strike. He'll never score a better goal.

  6. goal

GOAL - Germany 0-1 Northern Irelandpublished at 7 mins

    Michael Smith

This may be the best moment of Michael Smith's career! Northern Ireland lead in Germany!

George Saville hooks the ball in, close to the deadball line, Toni Kroos' header is not a convincing one and it falls to Hearts defender Smith - and what a strike.

Low and hard from 25 yards out, it beats a despairing dive from Marc-Andre ter Stegen into the bottom corner. Unbelievable.

  7. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Germany 0-0 Northern Ireland

Germany need to win this game to ensure they top the qualifying group and boost their chances of being seeded for next summer's tournament.

  9. Two jobs? Dead easy, says O'Neillpublished at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2019

Germany v Northern Ireland (19:45 GMT)

Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill insists he will be able to juggle his new Stoke City post with the Euro 2020 play-off in March.

An agreement between Stoke and the Irish FA means O'Neill stays in charge until the play-off, which Northern Ireland guaranteed with Saturday's draw against the Netherlands.

"It's dead easy," said O'Neill. "We're going to turn up on a Sunday and play on a Thursday. I can pick my squad now - I could name it tomorrow."

O'Neill, who took over as Stoke City boss earlier this week, added: "There are not 40 players out there we're not picking.

"I'll be able to [prepare for the opposition]. That's not a problem. Our opponents don't play between now and then, they've already played. We're not going to watch individual players play for their clubs, so the work we have on the opponents, we'll have that well in advance."

  11. 'Satisfied in a difficult year'published at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2019

Germany v Northern Ireland (19:45 GMT)

The Germans suffered a shock group-stage exit at last year's World Cup and were relegated in the inaugural Nations League, prompting a major overhaul of the team.

They have bounced back to qualify for Euro 2020 with just one loss and six wins from seven qualifiers so far.

"It's a big compliment to the team because qualifying for a tournament is always above everything else, and this young team with young players at the start of their process did it well," added boss Joachim Low.

"We have the chance to qualify as group winner. I am satisfied in a difficult year."

  14. We want 'upward swing' to continue - Cathcartpublished at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2019

Germany v Northern Ireland (19:45 GMT)

Northern Ireland defender Craig Cathcart says they are keen to continue their 'upward swing', even though the game in Frankfurt is a dead rubber with Germany and the Netherlands having already qualified from Group C, and NI assured of a play-off place in March.

"The last five or six years have been brilliant. We're on an upward swing and want it to continue," said Cathcart, who is winning his 50th Northern Ireland cap tonight.

  17. Germany match key for players' confidence - O'Neillpublished at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2019

Germany v Northern Ireland (19:45 GMT)

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill says today's Euro 2020 qualifier against Germany is another chance for young players to gain experience.

"The main thing for us is the experience, particularly for the young players, playing in this kind of arena," said O'Neill.

"It's as difficult a game as you can get. But it's important to get a good performance and it will be a great experience for the players.

"We know we have the play-off situation so we can go and try and enjoy the game as much as you can when you're playing Germany in Germany."
