Middlesbrough v Sheff Wed (15:00 BST)

Sheffield Wednesday's visit to Middlesbrough this afternoon has a bit of a subplot, in that Wednesday boss Garry Monk managed 26 games for the Teessiders a couple of years ago.

It's fair to say there's still a bit of legal wrangling going on, which we'll park here, but Monk's reputation isn't the greatest on Teesside.

Monk has some quietly optimistic fans at Hillsborough, as they plugged away to get a draw against Fulham last weekend despite giving plenty of possession up.

Homegrown boss Jonathan Woodgate might just be coming to the end of his honeymoon period at Boro as they haven't quite ignited under his tutelage, although fans are much happier with the style.

Today could be an interesting occasion.

  5. Huddersfield desperate to get off the markpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Huddersfield v Millwall (15:00 BST)

Eight games and no wins. And that's just this season. Huddersfield Town haven't won a league game since February. EIGHTEEN in total.

It's a statistic that Huddersfield Town need to address sharpish, and their new boss Danny Cowley and assistant brother Nicky will have to work the same kind of magic which brought about two promotions and FA Cup runs at Lincoln.

Cowley believes the Terriers have forgotten how to win, but giving them hope is that today's opponents Millwall have dropped off themselves after a bright opening few games.

Their boss Neil Harris has publicly tried to heap the pressure on Huddersfield in response to his side's own six-game winless run.

However, he acknowledged as well that the optimum point of playing the Terriers was before their arrival. The Cowley's reputation precedes them...

  6. A week to forget for the Ramspublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Derby v Birmingham (15:00 BST)

    Richard KeoghImage source, Getty Images

It's the understatement of the century, but it's not been a great week for anyone associated with Derby County.

Rams captain Richard Keogh injured his knee in a car crash - ruling him out for the season - while team-mates Mason Bennett and Tom Lawrence have been charged with drink-driving following the incident.

It came after boss Phillip Cocu had tried to set up a bit of team-bonding, amid a run of one win in eight Championship games. They've only lost twice but five draws has not done them much good - they're down in 18th.

Whether Birmingham can capitalise amid the chaos is no forgone conclusion - they've been a real mixed bag, particularly away.

Impressive victories at Brentford and Charlton have been juxtaposed by heavy losses at Nottingham Forest and Swansea. Which side will Pep Clotet turn out today?

  7. Swans not getting over-confidentpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Swansea v Reading (15:00 BST)

Swansea celebrate a goalImage source, Getty Images

Steve Cooper's straight-talking pre-match presser threw up some wonderfully evocative language in midweek, as he warned his Swansea players of believing their hype after a fantastic start to the Championship season.

"If you pay too much attention (to the table) it can quickly smash you in the face, so we will be mindful of just doing our job," he said in the build up to this weekend's visit of Reading.

He was referring a mini drop-off in form, which has seen defeat by Nottingham Forest followed up by a goalless draw at Bristol City.

His opposite number this afternoon, Reading boss Jose Gomes, has been pleading positivity despite the midweek 4-2 EFL Cup defeat by Wolves.

Three straight league defeats preceeded that, but the manner of the performance at Molineux has given the Portuguese cause for optimism.

  8. Bowyer welcomes old friendspublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Charlton v Leeds (15:00 BST)

    Lee BowyerImage source, Getty Images

Lee Bowyer played some of his best football in a Leeds United shirt, helping the Whites to Champions League and Uefa Cup semi-finals and winning an England cap during his 55 goals in 265 games.

So it's no surprise the Charlton boss has some positive words for the club at whom he spent seven seasons, claiming they will be right in the mix for promotion this season.

His side cannot afford to be so generous out on the field, as second-placed Leeds have lost just once and conceded only four goals from their eight games. They could have run up a cricket score against Derby, but for hitting the woodwork on several occasions and missing some peaches.

Lyle Taylor's absence has hit the Addicks hard, he's accounted for five of their 11 league strikes, and has missed the past two - in which they've failed to score a goal.

Something needs to give down at the Valley.

Cheers. Afternoon, all. That was a lively start to proceedings.

With the action all done and dusted in our early Championship kick-off, now feels like a good time to start building up towards our 15:00 BST games.

Here's Matt Newsum to talk you through it all...

  11. West Brom go top of the Championshippublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    FT: QPR 0-2 West Brom

This victory does, of course, mean West Bromwich Albion go top of the Championship for a few hours at least.

Leeds United are one of three sides who could yet displace them before the end of today - and the Whites face the Baggies on Tuesday. What a belting little tussle that'll be.

"We're confident," adds Nathan Ferguson. "We know Leeds have a good squad but we're definitely confident."

  12. 'I've been dreaming of this moment'published at 14:27 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    FT: QPR 0-2 West Brom

West Brom goalscorer and man of the match Nathan Ferguson tells Sky Sports: "It means the world to me. I've been at this club for a while and I've been dreaming of this moment for years.

"They gave me space so I was thinking just drive into it and my mum and dad always tell me to shoot so I decided to shoot and it paid off."

Baggies striker Charlie Austin describes Ferguson's performance as "fantastic" and says he "took his goal really well".

And that's it. The full-time whistle is sounded and West Brom are going top of the Championship at least for a few hours at least.

After a dismal first half, Nathan Ferguson and Matheus Pereira's goals either side of Yoann Barbet's sending off seal three points for the visitors.

QPR's four-game winning run in the league comes to an end.

    QPR 0-2 West Brom

Kyle Edwards works onto a cross in the QPR box having been found completely unmarked.

He moves it onto his right foot to fire from close range but QPR keeper Joe Lumley parries his effort away.

    QPR 0-2 West Brom

QPR haven't had much of a handle on this game at all and, to sum up an afternoon to forget for Mark Warburton's side, Jordan Hugill fires a shot from an acute angle that's easily collected by Baggies keeper Sam Johnstone.

    Four minutes added on, meanwhile.

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 89 mins

Hal Robson-Kanu rushes through to the QPR goal and is flagged offside but decides to shoot anyway after the whistle is blown.

West Brom punish QPR here and they're surely going top of the Championship, now.

Matheus Pereira stands over the free-kick that follows Yoann Barbet's sending off and fires it low through a gap in the QPR wall and past Joe Lumley.

Not great organisation from the set-piece from the hosts.
