Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to Sky Sports: "We've travelled a lot in the last week. We've got a good team spirit and camaraderie. It shows the character of the team.

"We get the games where we want them. We've been leading 1-0 in many games and not kicked on. Today we were excellent, with fast flowing flowing. That's Manchester United. We're trying to get back to that.

"Marcus has that strike in him. I've seen him in training so many times.

"When you give young lads the experience, like Brandon Williams got tonight - and the kid was outstanding - it's only going to help them. We know we're not the finished product, we're a work in progress and keep trying to improve."

Curtis Jones talking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Being a local lad it's always been my dream to get an appearance at Anfield. To get an assist to give us a chance and then to score a penalty is just a dream come true.

"I was calm, I picked my spot and I was fortunate enough that the winning penalty went in. The team played great, they showed character and belief. The fans were unbelievable too, they helped us through the game and we're glad we paid them back.

"We knew regardless of the Arsenal team it was going to be a tough game. We knew we could match them and that's what we did tonight.

"This is just the beginning, I'm just a young lad and I've still got a long way to go. Any opportunities I'll take with both hands."

Manchester United

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford to Sky Sports: "We’ve been in a tough place. We’re still getting through that phase.

"The only way to get through it is to fight through it and win because they’re the things which keep everyone happy. When you’ve won, you wake up with a good feeling. The main focus was improvement and development.

"We’re definitely going places, from pre-season we did a lot of good work. The start of the season wasn’t what we expected but we’ve got to get through it."

James Milner is so calm in those situations. He said to me the other week that 'pressure is for tyres' when I asked if he feels any when asked to take a penalty.

He enjoys being under that pressure, he thrives off it.

Divock Origi talking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "It was unbelievable. It was another special night at Anfield. We enjoyed it a lot.

"There were a lot of goals, it must have been very exciting to watch from the outside. I think even I'll watch it again.

"I'm happy I was grateful I could help the team. We just wanted to show again that we have an unbelievable team.

"They are a very good team, they have good prospects. We knew it was going to be a difficult night. We showed mentality and we know anything can happen in football."

Arsenal manager Unai Emery: "A crazy match. I am very proud of their work, we had a high rhythm in the first 45 minutes. At the end we were winning until the last action. Penalties are 50/50 and we lost.

"We are sad but our work, we deserve to have more. There are lots of positives to take.

"Defensively, both teams cannot be happy with that. But for the supporters it was an amazing 90 minutes. The result was always changing. It was spectacular.

"We can be proud of our work but not the result. Mesut Ozil is back helping us with his quality and his spirit. He played with good spirit, quality.

"It was in the plan to replace him, we had spoken about that before.

"Granit Xhaka? Now I cannot say how we are going to play on Saturday. We have to take it step by step."

The impressive thing for me, it's similar to what Manchester City do, when the youngsters come into the team it's the exact same. They know how to press, they know about the angles, it's clearly run through the academy so when they come into the first team they know how to play.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on Sky Sports: "We made some mistakes, we played some average passes. We were too open at times. We can talk about tactics but who cares on a night like this? I hoped for the boys they would have a game to remember. What they did tonight, I lost it really.

"It's like a dream to play for the first time at Anfield, but things might not be going right and you have to stay on track. All our goals we cored were wonderful.

"Kelleher is an outstanding talent. The crossing from Williams, he might not thought he would play tonight.

"Jones... it was not my decision in the end for him to take the last penalty. When I saw the list Origi was the taker of the last one and they changed it obviously.

"If you don't win nobody remembers it in three years, if it works out the boys will remember it forever."

That flick from Ozil, that quality is what makes him worthy of being in the team. I was gutted when he was substituted. He's the only player on the pitch that can execute that flick, it was just phenomenal.

Ozil has to play at the weekend. It's the manager's responsibility to put the right players in around him to compensate for putting Ozil in the team. He's too good to not put him in the team.

Curtis Jones will be disappointed to not start the game after how well he played at MK Dons in the previous round. But it's about coming off the bench and making an impact and he did that. What a fantastic occasion for him and his family.

This was the highest scoring match in the League Cup since a 6-6 draw between Dagenham & Redbridge and Brentford in August 2014.
