An accomplished all-round performance by West Brom saw them hit five past visiting Swansea to return to the top of the Championship.

There is a lot of football still to be played of course but the top two of Leeds and West Brom certainly look to be the teams to beat.

West Brom boss Slaven Bilic tells Sky Sports:

"I'm very pleased. We played a good game and had a big win which was very well deserved. We played a team that was unbeaten away from home that can hurt you, frustrate you, and is not afraid to play.

"We knew we had to have a complete game, be solid and apart from the goal and set-pieces, we managed the game well and were on the front foot with good teamwork and width.

"We were very clinical. The gap is ok-ish now if you take into account it’s six wins in row, so confidence is sky-high, but we have to stay humble and focused.

"We have a good bunch of players but you have to remind them daily to work hard in training.

“We are good, of course, but the key is what you have to do to get to this stage, the sacrifice.”

That win was the Baggies' sixth in a row and while it was Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana who provided the thrills, the team had solid, understated performers throughout.

Bristol City's win at third-placed Fulham yesterday means the top two of Leeds and West Brom now have a significant lead on their rivals, with eight points separating second and third.

For Swansea, a fifth game without a win and their goal difference taking a serious hit, means they drop a place to 11th, with Blackburn - the team they face in their next match - moving above them.

However, it's not all doom and gloom, they're only two points off a play-off spot, they just need to shake today's result off quickly before hosting Rovers on Wednesday.

In the end, a comprehensive victory for the home side.

It was a open game from the outset, but it took 25 minutes for The Hawthorns faithful to see the first goal, from Semi Ajayi's header. The excellent Mattheus Pereira added the second after a slick, flowing move, before Sam Surridge hit back for Swansea, prodding in from a corner to reduce the deficit.

But an error allowed Hal Robson-Kanu to restore the two-goal lead at the break.

Swansea never really threatened to stage a serious comeback in the second half, with West Brom playing with great confidence. Two goals in three minutes from Matt Phillips and Kyle Edwards finished things off and saw the Baggies move above Leeds to retake their place at the Championship summit.

It comes as no great surprise that Matheus Pereira has been named man-of-the-match.

He has been involved in all five West Brom goals, scoring one, registering a hat-trick of assists, and taking the corner that was headed back across goal by Kyle Bartley for Semi Ajayi to finish.

One to keep an eye on.

Andre Ayew, who hasn't had much of a sniff for Swansea today, is replaced by Aldo Kalulu for the closing stages.

The hosts are still playing with great confidence and look hungry for more goals amid the Midlands hailstones.

Kyle Edwards made an immediate impact after replacing Grady Diangana and flashes a shot wide while looking for his second.

Swansea need to keep their heads up, keep working hard and ensure this doesn't get ugly.

With those yellow cards and substitutions the game has lost a little bit of its flow.

Swansea need to get the next goal with time running out for them, but it's the hosts who are still enjoying the lion's share of possession and territory.

We had four goals in the final 20 minutes of the first-half - how many will we see in the final stages of the second?

A short stoppage in play as Kyle Bartley and Andre Ayew clash heads, with the former coming off worse.

Baggies boss Slaven Bilic takes no chances and replaces him with Egyptian centre-back Ahmed Hegazi for the final 25 minutes.

An experienced defender with Premiership and World Cup experience shows the strength of the host's bench.

Another inventive set-piece sees Matt Phillips fool everyone and play a pass to Matheus Pereira who is running diagonally behind the wall.

His cut-back hits the defending Kyle Naughton and heads towards goal, but Freddie Woodman makes a fine reaction stop to prevent an own goal and Swansea can clear.

With the rain now pouring down at The Hawthorns, that wasn't an easy save.

West Brom's Kieran Gibbs pushes forward down the left but suddenly reaches down to clutch his hamstring.

That's game over for the ex-Arsenal man and he is replaced by Darnell Furlong.

And in a fairly similar looking incident, minus the nutmeg, Nathan Ferguson is booked for bringing Nathan Dyer's run forward to an abrupt end.

Swansea can't work anything from the free-kick, much to manager Steve Cooper's frustration.

Jay Fulton goes into the referee's notebook as he chops down Grady Diangana.

The Baggies wide man puts in a delicious little nutmeg on Nathan Dyer and as he turns away, Fulton comes across and wipes him out.

Great skill by Diangana - not that Fulton appreciated it though.

West Brom move the ball so quickly and it's that man Matheus Pereira who finds space in behind the Swans' defence.

But in possibly his first poor decision of the day, he takes too long to get a shot away and when he cuts inside, the chance is lost.

Back under way at the Hawthorns and the diminutive long-serving Swan Nathan Dyer is on for Kristoffer Peterson.

We're being told it's a tactical switch by Steve Cooper.

Slightly surprising for me that one as Peterson was arguably the brightest attacking threat for the visitors in the first half.

Swansea haven't played badly by any means, but they find themselves 3-1 down thanks to a combination of West Brom's quality and a sloppy end to the half when they gave the ball away, leading to Hal Robson Kanu's goal.

Matheus Pereira has certainly caught the eye for the Baggies.

The Sporting Lisbon loanee picks-up great positions and played a role in all three of his side's goals, scoring one himself with one of those lovely strikes players of quality can pull off - not trying to hit it too hard, just stroking it into the net.

Swansea aren't out of it and at 2-1 the home fans were starting to get a little concerned. If they can hang in there and get the opening goal of the second period, they may well leave the Midlands with a point.
