Summary

  • Bournemouth have their lowest PL points tally at this stage of season

  • Chelsea looking for first back-to-back league wins since November

  1. 'I fear for Bournemouth'published at 19 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea

    Micah Richards
Former Man City defender on Final Score

I fear for this Bournemouth side. When they came up, they were playing beautiful football, but teams have now found out exactly how they play - and they find themselves wanting at times.

  2. YELLOW CARDpublished at 17 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea are finding their rhythm and patiently work the ball to the edge of the Bournemouth box.

Reece James has two stabs at delivering a cross but neither find Olivier Giroud hovering in the six-yard box.

Jorginho is booked as he prevents the Cherries breaking clear - that 10th booking will see him suspended.

  3. Postpublished at 15 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea

Jefferson Lerma almost puts his side in trouble as he loses possession inside his own half.

The Cherries work fast to win the ball back though and return the ball to goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale as they prepare to build from the back again.

Chelsea are playing much higher up now though and are beginning to push the hosts back.

  4. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea

What a breathless opening it has been.

The game settles down for a moment as Chelsea begin to battle their way into the contest, but Bournemouth really should already be ahead.

Willy Caballero is forced into action again as Callum Wilson meets Joshua King's cross, the Chelsea goalkeeper scooping the ball away as it threatened to go past him.

  5. 'Giroud should always play'published at 10 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea

    Micah Richards
Former Man City defender on Final Score

Olivier Giroud I think should always play. He brings people into play. He's been unfortunate but the quality is there for all to see. He's a top player.

  6. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea make their first forward move of the match and a deep cross falls to Marcos Alonso who earns his side a corner.

The delivery from Reece James is poor but the ball rolls out to Mason Mount who hits a sweet shot from the edge of the area which draws a good save from Aaron Ramsdale.

Better from the visitors, who have taken a while to wake up.

  7. CLOSE!published at 6 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea

Philip Billing should be on a hat-trick!

Fikayo Tomori makes a mess of his clearance and Billing is there ready to pounce.

Through on goal, he smashes his shot into the side netting. Huge, huge let-off for Chelsea.

  8. CLOSE!published at 4 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea

The Cherries continue to dominate the ball in the opening stages with Chelsea in no significant hurry to try and take control.

Jack Stacey overlaps on the right and delivers a good low cross towards Philip Billing and the Bournemouth midfielder's first-time shot is well blocked by Willy Caballero.

Almost the perfect start for the hosts!

  9. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea

The stadium announcer was getting the home support up for this one in the moments before kick-off.

Bournemouth begin with plenty of early possession and are steadily sneaking their way up the pitch...

We're up and running at a rather sunny Vitality Stadium!

  11. Team sheets a tale of two defenderspublished at 14:58 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    Bournemouth v Chelsea (15:00 GMT)

    Chris Wise
    Final Score at Vitality Stadium

It’s the tale of two defenders at the Vitality Stadium.

Former Chelsea man Nathan Ake is back for Bournemouth after concussion. The team badly feel his absence every time he is missing.

But Fikayo Tomori’s inclusion in Frank Lampard’s side is the really eye-catching piece of team news. He’s not started in the Premier League this year, having played a big role in the early months of the campaign.

  12. Chelsea to pick off the Cherries?published at 14:56 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

Chelsea seem to be more comfortable on the road, although they have not always got the results their away performances have deserved - take last month's defeat at Newcastle for example.

But I still think they will have enough to see off Bournemouth.

    Prediction: 0-2

  13. 'Home crowd crucial'published at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    Bournemouth v Chelsea (15:00 GMT)

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe: "We've enjoyed the last two home games, the crowd have been exceptional for us.

"We're going to need them as much as ever going into the final games of the season."

  14. 'We must fight until the end'published at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    Bournemouth v Chelsea (15:00 GMT)

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard: "Our last Premier League performance was very, very good, so we have to carry on from that.

"I wouldn't relate the Bayern loss to the win over Spurs, but in the bigger picture it was a lesson for the players, because we played against very, very high-level opposition, and they were better than us on the night in most departments.

"And that's probably a reality check for all of us here. At the minute we're in fourth place, which people probably didn't quite expect, and we have to fight until the end for fourth."

  15. Close encounter in Decemberpublished at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    Bournemouth v Chelsea (15:00 GMT)

Dan Gosling's late goal gave an injury-hit Bournemouth their first victory in over a month in a scrappy encounter at Stamford Bridge in December.

That win took them four points clear of the bottom three. How they will be hoping for a similar boost today.

  16. 'Both sides looking to bounce back'published at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    Bournemouth v Chelsea (15:00 GMT)

    Mark Scott
    Match of the Day commentator

Both sides come into this one off the back of heavy defeats. Bournemouth were understandably aggrieved by their VAR-affected loss at Burnley, while Frank Lampard called Chelsea's battering by Bayern "a reality check" and one that showed there's still a lot of work to be done.

That was the Blues' eighth home defeat of the season, with the Cherries one of those to win at the Bridge this term, which made it three wins in four for them in this fixture.

Although Chelsea were impressive against fellow Champions League chasers Spurs last weekend, they have lost more games against bottom-half clubs than they have to top-half teams this season.

  17. They're behind you...published at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    Bournemouth v Chelsea (15:00 GMT)

Bournemouth welcome Chelsea to the Vitality Stadium this afternoon in a meeting of two sides who are glancing over their shoulders as we head towards the business end of the Premier League season.

Chelsea need a victory to maintain their hold on fourth spot – the final position guaranteed to offer a Champions League place as second-placed Manchester City contest their European ban.

Bournemouth are aiming to record a first ever league double over Chelsea and avoid three successive league defeats in the process to boost their survival hopes. They currently sit two points above the relegation places.

This is a rather big game at both ends of the table...

  18. Team newspublished at 14:06 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    Bournemouth v Chelsea (15:00 GMT)

There are four changes for Bournemouth after defeat at Burnley last weekend - Ryan Fraser starts as Nathan Ake returns after sustaining a kick to the head in training.

Jefferson Lerma is also back in the starting XI following a rib problem, as does Lewis Cook.

Harry Wilson, Dan Gosling, Andrew Surman and Simon Francis all drop out.

Bournemouth XI: Ramsdale, Smith, Stacey, Ake, S Cook, Billing, Lerma, L Cook, Fraser, Wilson, King.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard makes two changes to the side dismantled by Bayern Munich in midweek, as Pedro and Fikayo Tomori replace Antonio Rudiger and Ross Barkley.

Willy Caballero keeps his place in goal ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga, while Olivier Giroud again leads the line in the absence of Tammy Abraham.

Chelsea XI: Caballero, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Tomori, James, Jorginho, Kovacic, Alonso, Mount, Pedro, Giroud.
