Dele Alli hits the deck in the area under pressure from Ryan Bertrand and again throws his arms out in frustration as Mike Dean ignores his protests.

More defensive frailties from Spurs - they have now conceded in 18 straight away games.

Nathan Redmond weaves into the Spurs box and shoots low. Paulo Gazzaniga saves but the ball squirts away and is put behind for a corner.

Then Spurs quickly break away downfield and Harry Kane sends in a cross from the right, but Alex McCarthy dives to collect while colliding with a defender.

Dele Alli tangles with Jack Stephens and goes to ground in the area. Mike Dean is uninterested, but Alli continues to moan as the play goes away from the Saints box.

That was better from Spurs - Serge Aurier drifted down the right and sent in a cross that Jan Bednarek cut out with Harry Kane lurking behind him.

It's all a bit scrappy at the moment, neither side can hang on to the ball for long.

A deep cross from the left gives Cedric Soares a great chance to at least hit the target with a free header - but it's weak and way off target

Neat stuff from Moussa Djenepo on the edge of Spurs' box gives Danny Ings a half-chance in the first 20 seconds, but the striker's shot on the spin hits a defender and rebounds away

And Southampton get us under way, with Mike Dean refereeing.

The teams are out on a drizzly, grey day on the south coast and we're nearly ready.

A lot has changed since these two last met in September in what proved to be the final league victory of Mauricio Pochettino's time at Tottenham.

Some felt Ralph Hasenhuttl was more likely than Pochettino to be out of a job first following Southampton's 9-0 annihilation against Leicester, but he has since steered them clear of the relegation zone and reckons that awful evening has actually been the catalyst for their recent upturn in form.

Defensive issues have been an unexpected feature of Jose Mourinho's spell at Spurs, although the club struggled at the back on their travels throughout 2019, having gone a year without an away clean sheet in the league.
