All times stated are UK

  1. 'What happened to the energy?'

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: The optimism was based on the performance at Wembley, but we got nothing like that tonight. What happened to the energy? You get back into the game, but then there's no energy and we don't compete in midfield.
  2. Maestro Modric

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Luka Modric at Hampden tonight:

    • Most touches
    • Most passes
    • Most passes in the opposition half
    • One goal, one assist.

Over the hill? You're having a laugh.

  3. WATCH: Vlasic fires Croatia in front

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

  4. 'Scotland going too long'

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Graeme Souness

    Former Scotland captain on ITV

Quote Message: I would have changed things at half-time. Croatia had too much possession. I would have taken off a striker and given us an extra player in midfield. We went too long to Lyndon Dykes at times.

  5. Scotland handed 'tough lesson' - McGregor

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

Scotland's goalscorer Callum McGregor speaking to ITV: "The lads are shattered. The fans were amazing again and we want to thank them for their input.

"[Modric's goal] That's what you're up against at this level - it was a tough lesson.

"It's always nice to to score and get my first goal for my country - but ultimately we're disappointed with the result.

"It was a tough learning experience tonight against some really top players but it just gives you the hunger to come back again."

  6. 'Croatia midfield given too much room'

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: We're talking top quality midfielders for Croatia - but I think the three we picked could have got closer to them. We were content to let the wing-backs sit wide and not come in and close the space. Just giving them all the room to destroy us.
  7. 'Hope for the future'

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Ally McCoist

    Former Scotland striker on ITV

Quote Message: If we can keep producing the Pattersons, the Gilmours, the Tierneys, the Turnbulls, the Robertsons, we'll be back in a major championship again. Without getting carried away we've definitely got better players in our team than we've had for a while. It's disappointing tonight but there's hope for the future.
  8. 'Out but not down'

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Scott Mullen

    BBC Scotland at Hampden

This is hard to watch. The Scotland players gather in a huddle in the centre of the pitch, before going to the supporters with chants of "Scotland, Scotland" bellowing back.

It may have been short, but Scotland's return to the big stage has energised a nation. They gave everything.

  9. FULL-TIME Croatia 3-1 Scotland

The dream is over for Scotland and it was pretty comfortable for Croatia, who were a class apart and thoroughly deserved the victory.

Luka Modric ran the show and his team end up as runners-up in Group D.

  10. CLOSE!

    Croatia 3-1 Scotland

Well, that just kind of sums of the evening for Scotland as Scott McKenna knocks the ball wide from just a few yards, timing his header all wrong when it looked easier to score.

  11. 'Indecisive' Scottish midfield

    Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Neil McCann

Former Scotland winger on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: The Scotland midfield have been indecisive, they weren't communicating at times and they lost their shape.
  12. Post update

    Croatia 3-1 Scotland

Into four minutes of stoppage-time. It's all very quiet inside Hampden, with Croatia in control.

  13. 'A tough evening at Wembley'

    Czech Republic 0-1 England

    Alasdair Lamont

    BBC Sport Scotland at Wembley

Grim viewing even from this distance. The English are really rubbing it in with songs at Scotland's expense. Apart from the Croatia goals, the biggest cheer of the night here came a moment ago when Jadon Sancho was finally given some Euros game time. The Czechs need a goal or they slip to third.

  14. 'Croatia midfield a joy to watch'

    Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: It's been outstanding from Croatia tonight. The way they pop it about. Their midfield - and Luka Modric in particular - have been a joy to watch. Their defence looks suspect but we've not done enough to test them.
  15. Scotland debut for teenager Patterson

    Croatia 3-1 Scotland

Nathan Patterson is on for his competitive Scotland debut and Kevin Nisbet is on too,

Stephen O'Donnell and Che Adams are the men going the opposite way.

  16. 'Modric the best on the park by a mile'

    Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Ally McCoist

    Former Scotland striker on ITV

Quote Message: It's a brilliant ball in from Luka Modric. He's been the best player on the park by a mile. Just a pleasure to watch him.
    Luka Modric
  17. As things stand...

That Croatia goal takes them up to second in the table. The Czechs would still go through as one of the best third-placed teams.

Scotland are out unless they score three goals in 11 minutes.

    Group D
  18. Post update

    Croatia 3-1 Scotland

Good, direct running from Ryan Fraser and his attempted shot breaks to Che Adams near the back post. The angle is very tight and the goalkeeper is there to block.

  19. 'Great header' from Perisic

    Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Neil McCann

Former Scotland winger on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: He does Tierney with the movement. He gets a run on him, and then it's a great header. We've not got anyone on either of the posts.
  20. GOAL Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Ivan Perisic

    And that will be that...

Luka Modric swings in a corner and Ivan Perisic is up higher than Kieran Tierney at the front post to glance home a header via the base of the far post.
