  1. End of the road for Scotland

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

Well, one point and one goal wasn't quite what we had in mind when Scotland ended their long absence from major finals football.

The opening defeat to the Czech Republic was a huge anti-climax and hugely damaging. A gutsy draw at Wembley gave us hope but Croatia were far too strong for a tired-looking side at Hampden.

Now, we look forward to the next round of World Cup qualifying fixtures, while the Euros move on to the knockout rounds.

In September, Steve Clarke's men face Denmark (A), Moldova (H) and Austria (A) and we really need to take something from at least one of those away fixtures against the two top seeds.

Thanks for your company and good night.

  2. 'Problems in front of goal'

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Charlie Mulgrew

Dundee United defender on BBC Sportscene

Quote Message: We created chances in every game but we've not looked like taking them

  4. 'Scotland too passive'

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Michael Stewart

Former Scotland midfielder on BBC Sportscene

Quote Message: We were too passive, when we needed to take the initiative. Scotland had to get on top of Croatia and not allow them to settle into a rhythm
  5. What next for Croatia?

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

Croatia will play the runners-up from Group E in Copenhagen on Monday.

Sweden, Poland, Slovakia and Spain are all in the running going into tomorrow's final group games.

  6. 'When we play like this, we are dangerous to everyone'

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

Luka Modric, Croatia captain: "We are happy because we played a big match and qualified for the next round. We were not happy with performances in the first two matches and we knew we could be better. When we play like this, we are dangerous to everyone.

"This goal means a lot to me but our play means more, from the beginning until the end. I am happy that my goal helped, but it's most important that the team won."

  7. 'Scotland come up short'

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Billy Dodds

Former Scotland striker on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: We didn't start the tournament well and we've come up well short tonight. We let Croatia have the ball, which was the wrong thing to do. We looked tired at times, and left ourselves too much to do.
  8. Scotland long ball game 'from another era'

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Graeme Souness

    Former Scotland captain on ITV

Quote Message: I don't think you'll see a team in the Euros go as long as often as we did tonight. It was football from another era. If we're going to progress, we've got to play more football. We can do it, we did it at Wembley.

  10. Scots lacked tournament nous - Clarke

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke on BBC Radio Scotland: "I'm sad for the players. Waited a long time to get to a tournament and it was a good group of players that got us there.

"And over the course of the tournament there was a lot of good stuff but ultimately not the points we needed.

"Tonight we were against a team that are tournament hardened and they knew how to play the third game in a group and probably we didn't. That's why we're going home and Croatia are going through.

"It was great for the fans to cheer the players at the end - it was great for the players to hear that.

"I think talking about being tournament ready - we didn't get anything out the first game which meant we had to go to Wembley and expend a lot of energy physically and mentally to give ourselves a chance and maybe we suffered for it in the third game.

"That's something we can learn for the next tournament - I promise you it won't be 23 years until the next one."

  11. Croatia can build on win - Barisic

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

Rangers and Croatia defender Borna Barisic, talking to BBC Radio Scotland: "It wasn't an easy game. We knew that Scotland play a style that we don't like. It looks like a comfortable game but it wasn't.

"We knew how much quality we have in midfield and we dominated there. There is pressure on us after the World Cup and we didn't start well, but on this performance we can build our future games. I don't know how far we can go, but we'll go as far as we can."

  13. 'A big disappointment'

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall talking to BBC Radio Scotland: "The positivity was there after the England performance, and we've started the game well tonight, so it's a big disappointment.

"Croatia handled the second half really well. There are fine margins in games, but we can't argue with the result really. The manager's said to us that this is just the start of something and in a short space of time we'll be meeting up to try to qualify for the World Cup.

"We've got tournament experience now, which will make us better as a group."

  16. 'They battered us in midfield'

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

    Billy Dodds

Former Scotland striker on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: He's just a magician Modric - he was like a conductor with his orchestra. Brozovic is some player as well, wanting the ball all the time. We were second best and have to hold our hands up. They were brilliant, but when you don't go up against them, they love it. Sadly that's where we lost it - they battered us in midfield
  17. 'We didn't do ourselves justice'

    FT: Croatia 3-1 Scotland

Scotland midfielder John McGinn tells ITV: "Devastated we're not through. Through the whole campaign we didn't get off to the best of starts.

"We came up against an excellent team tonight and they have experience at the major tournaments and they showed that tonight. I feel we didn't do ourselves justice but we created history by coming here to a major tournament."
