    Juventus 0-0 Cagliari

If Gianluigi Buffon is needed off the bench today, he will break Paolo Maldini's record for most appearances in Serie A.

The pair have both played 647 times in Italy's top flight.

However you'd imagine they're planning to decide a game in advance and make a big deal of it.

    Juventus v Cagliari (14:00 GMT)

Juventus, who have won the past eight Serie A titles, are in the rare position of going into the new year not in top spot.

They are behind leaders Inter Milan on goal difference. However that's slightly misleading because at the end of the season head-to-head record separates teams level on points, and Juve won 2-1 at San Siro in October.

Cagliari have been one of Serie A's surprise teams - sitting in sixth. But they have lost their last two league games. Their last Serie A win was on 2 December.

Because AC Milan v Sampdoria is 12th v 17th, it's not actually that interesting until Zlatan Ibrahimovic comes on.

Luckily there is another good game in Serie A this afternoon.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has returned to AC Milan on a six-month contract after leaving LA Galaxy.

Today will be his first appearance in a European league since Manchester United's 2-2 draw with Burnley on Boxing Day 2017.
