Asked what has hindered Chelsea's progress this season, Lampard said injuries have been a big problem at the club.

"There were a few overlapping from last year, which were huge: N'Golo Kante, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Antonio Rudiger. It's been an issue and now we have another bulk.'

Lampard also said the fact Kane, who he describes as 'one of the best midfielders in the world', has only played half the season has been a big frustration.

Rodgers admitted that his team must be wary of the threat posed by their Championship opponents. He spoke about Birmingham's Jude Bellingham. the 16-year-old that has played 31 league games this season.

"It’s a Midlands derby against a team that will be tough," said Rodgers. "Their form is showing that they’re a resilient team.

"They’ve got some very good players and you could argue they’re better away from home. Jude Bellingham is a phenomenal player.

"For a kid at 16 years of age to show that personality is incredible really. We have to be mindful of their quality."

On the subject of being beaten by the Premier League's bottom club, Rodgers believes it is an experience his side will benefit from.

"Suffering makes you better," said the former Liverpool and Celtic boss.

"This is the great challenge at this part of the season. We have to be able to learn from this if we’re going to be in this part of the table.

"Nothing beats experience than experience. They’ve gone through it now. We were given some harsh lessons in some of the games, but we’ve responded to that before."

"It’s really about that unity of everyone on the field," said Rodgers. "There’s no doubt that we can play better.

"We have to improve our intensity on the ball. We’ve spoken about that since our last game.

"Likewise, in attack, the speed of our game needs to be faster. We have to play better and we’re working very hard to do that."

Asked about Liverpool's rhythm, Klopp said: "It's all good. there are so many explanations about the defeat. I cannot now deliver interesting answers.

"They didn't play well, that’s the truth. Watford had situations where they were better. It’s about mindset in moments and concentration levels. It was a very difficult game. They defended in 6-3-1 which is allowed but quite a challenge to play against."

On that defeat by Watford, Klopp was asked if it would affect his team selection.

"The defeat has nothing to do with line up tomorrow night," he said. "We have no clue what Chelsea are doing, they don't know what we are doing. We always play with a team which gives us best chance to reach next round."
