Leicester City

Leicester’s second Belgian midfield signing of the summer, Praet joined from Italian side Sampdoria, whose boss Eusebio di Francesco had described him as "one of the best midfielders in Italy".

He has been in and out during his debut campaign in England, making 29 appearances in all competitions, many from the bench, scoring once and providing three assists.

Leicester City

It was pretty much inevitable that Leicester would snap up midfielder Tielemans this summer after he impressed on loan during 2018-19, providing four assists in 13 appearances. Prior to that the highly-rated Belgium international's career had stalled somewhat after moving from Anderlecht to Monaco.

A regular in the Foxes side, he has scored five times and provided seven assists in 34 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

Liverpool

Having sold goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, Liverpool recruited Adrian on a free transfer following his release by West Ham to act as backup to first-choice Alisson. He had played 150 times in six years for West Ham after joining them from Real Betis in 2013.

An injury to Alisson in the early part of this season thrust Adrian into the firing line and he has made 18 appearances in total so far, keeping three cleansheets.

Manchester City

Cancelo moved to Man City this summer in a deal worth £60m, which included £34m-rated Danilo going in the opposite direction. Cancelo, who can play further forward as well as at left-back, was part of the Portugal squad that won the inaugural Nations League.

He has one goal and one assist in 24 appearances so far this season, during which he has helped City keep eight cleansheets.

Manchester City broke their transfer record in the summer to sign Spanish midfielder Rodri, topping the £60m fee they paid for Riyad Mahrez in 2018. "He works hard defensively, makes himself available to receive the ball and uses it well when in possession. We are confident he will be a success,” said director of football Txiki Begiristain.

He has featured regularly during this campaign, making 39 appearances in all competitions so far in which he has scored four times and assisted a further goal.

Manchester United

In a parallel universe somewhere, James is currently playing for Leeds, having joined them last January before helping them to promotion. That move never happened though, giving Manchester United the chance to snap him up this summer, and it has gone pretty well so far.

James has probably featured more than he imagined he would this season, making 37 appearances, in which he has four goals and seven assists. This includes three goals in his first four league games for the club.

Manchester United

The current world's most expensive defender, courtesy of his big-money move from Leicester to Manchester United this summer.

Worth every penny according to United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who called him “one of the best centre-backs in the game today... a great reader of the game with a strong presence on the pitch, and the ability to remain calm under pressure”.

As you’d expect, Maguire has featured in pretty much every game, making 41 appearances in all competitions. He has also captained the side regularly. He has two goals and two assists and has been involved in 18 cleansheets.

Manchester United

England Under-21 right-back Wan-Bissaka continued his meteoric rise by joining Manchester United for £50m this summer, having only made his first-team debut for Crystal Palace the previous year. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer described Wan-Bissaka as "one of the best upcoming defenders in the Premier League".

A regular throughout the season so far, Wan-Bissaka has made 34 appearances and while he is still waiting for a first goal, he has provided two assists and helped United keep 12 cleansheets.

Newcastle United

Never go back, is what they say. Andy Carroll clearly didn’t get the memo this summer as he returned to the place it all began and the club he left eight years ago in that high-profile £35m move to Liverpool. Released by West Ham following a six-year spell blighted by injuries, he signed a one-year contract with the Magpies.

He is yet to score this season but has provided four assists in 14 appearances, only three of which have been starts.

Newcastle United

That Newcastle number nine shirt can weigh heavily on some players. It's the history, you see. An otherwise big, strong centre-forward, poor Joelinton has spent much of this season metaphorically hunched.

It took a club record fee to prise striker Joelinton away from German club Hoffenheim,with him having netted 11 goals in 35 games last season, all of which only adds to the expectation. He has just one league goal to show for his efforts so far this campaign and three in total from 34 appearances. To give him his due, he also has four assists.

Newcastle United

French winger Saint-Maximin joined Newcastle from French side Nice on a lengthy six-year deal, suggesting the club had long-term plans for a player who had under-21 caps to his name and a reputation as a live-wire winger. "He has all the attributes you would want in an attacking player," manager Steve Bruce said at the time.

A few hamstring issues have hampered his progress for parts of this season but he has shown in flashes what he is all about, scoring three goals and assisting four more in 21 overall appearances.

Norwich City

Unlike some other promoted sides in recent seasons, Norwich took a modest approach to their summer transfer business. Defensive midfielder Amadou became their fifth signing when he joined on loan from Sevilla. Declaring it his dream to play in the Premier League, the player also added that he had rejected interest from clubs in other countries to join the Canaries.

He made 11 league appearances in total for City, but more often than not found himself used in defence, and is now back in Spain, on loan at Leganes.

Norwich City

Byram’s promising career never really took off after leaving first club Leeds, with injuries and inconsistency limiting him to just 36 appearances for West Ham before an ill-fated loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season. His move to City gave him the opportunity for a fresh start.

Seemingly over his injury nightmare, he has made 20 appearances in total, many of which came during December and January. He is yet to score or assist a goal but has helped Norwich keep three cleansheets.

Sheffield United

Having played a huge role in helping Sheffield United to promotion to the Premier League, goalkeeper Henderson rejoined the club on loan from Manchester United to be first-choice keeper for their return campaign in the top-flight. He was the Blades’ “number one target” according to boss Chris Wilder.

He picked up where he left off from the previous campaign, making 30 appearances in all competitions so far, conceding 24 goals in those and keeping 11 cleansheets.

Sheffield United

Having done so once with the signing of Lys Mousset, Sheffield United broke their transfer record again to sign another forward, McBurnie, from Swansea. The player arrived having netted 24 times in the Championship the previous season for the Swans. "We need options at the top of the pitch and Oli, as anyone who has watched a significant amount of Championship football will tell you, offers plenty in that area,” said boss Chris Wilder.

So far this campaign, McBurnie has scored four times in 29 appearances in all competitions.

Sheffield United

It never really happened for Mousset at his first English club, Bournemouth, where he netted five times in 71 appearances. He has as many goals in just 26 games for new club Sheffield United, who he joined in the summer for what was at the time a club-record fee for the Blades.

One of a host of new strikers brought in by boss Chris Wilder to complement those already at his newly-promoted club, Mousset has been in and out of the side but enjoyed a prolific nine-game spell at the end of 2019 in which he scored all five of his goals and produced three assists in the win over Burnley.

Southampton

Adams scored 22 goals for Birmingham in the Championship in 2018-19, bringing him to the attention of a number of Premier League clubs, including Southampton, who won the race for his signature for a fee of £15m. Boss Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed he has been "monitoring Adams for some time" and that he "fits the profile" of a player Southampton needs.

Adams has featured in 22 league games so far for Saints and 27 in all competitions, but is yet to find the net. He does, though, have four assists to his name.

Southampton

"He is an exciting player, with tremendous pace and good finishing," boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said after Southampton completed the signing of Mali winger Djenepo from Standard Liege. Djenepo scored 11 times in 2018-19 to help Liege finish third in the Belgian top flight.

He started well with Southampton, scoring two goals in his first three Premier League games but he hasn’t netted since, although he has added two assists. In total he has made 20 appearances, many of them from the bench.

Southampton

Now here is a heart-warming tale. Having endured an injury nightmare during his time at Liverpool, striker Ings spent 2018-19 on loan at Southampton, scoring seven times in 24 games. The move was made permanent in the summer for a fee of £20m, representing the regard in which he is still held despite the problems he has had with his fitness. "I've looked after myself over the summer and I'm just raring to go for the new season," said the Englishman.

He has netted 15 times in 29 league appearances and 18 in 33 in all competitions for the Saints so far this campaign, placing him back on the radar of England boss Gareth Southgate.

Tottenham Hotspur

Initially signed on loan from Betis with a view to joining permanently in the coming summer, Lo Celso’s move to Spurs was sealed early, in January. This is perhaps a sign of how well he has fitted in at the club this campaign. He came to north London with a huge reputation, having excelled in La Liga, scoring 16 times in 45 appearances.

He has been much more involved in the second half of this season than the first, making 28 appearances in total, scoring two goals and assisting another.
