Since guiding them to the Bundesliga from regional football in 2003 on Championship Manager (a feat which has been echoed in real life) I've been an avid Union Berlin fan. Looking good to avoid relegation this year!

A very late change to Dortmund's starting line-up. Giovani Reyna was injured in the warm-up so Thorgan Hazard starts instead. Eden's brother in for Claudio's son.

I'll be backing Fortuna Dusseldorf. I'm an Ipswich fan, and apparently our clubs share a partnership or something? Good enough for me.

I hope this game is half as good as their November 2017 meeting when Dortmund led 4-0 before Schalke came back to draw 4-4.

I'm so rusty on the ol' football live text, not sure I could handle a 4-4 today.

Borussia Dortmund could move to within a point of leaders Bayern Munich if they beat Schalke today.

Their old rivals Schalke are in a Europa League spot but unlikely to be in contention for the top four unless they win nearly every game.

Of course the German league isn't the first football league in action.

Every game will be behind closed doors. A ghost game as they call it in Germany.

There will be a police presence at stadiums to ensure fans do not enter and to prevent disturbances, amid concerns over anti-lockdown protesters.

Under strict health protocols, fans are banned from the stadiums. About 300 people, including players, staff and officials, will be in or around the stadiums.

Players have been tested for Covid-19 and will be expected to observe social distancing off the pitch. Every team have been in quarantine, going from a hotel to their training ground for the week leading up to this weekend's return.

And.. FIVE SUBSTITUTES. Each team can make five changes in a game.

Did you ever think this day would come? Actual football in one of Europe's top leagues.

    Glorious, albeit under strange circumstances.

The Bundesliga kicks off today amid the coronavirus pandemic. There will be no fans and players will need regular tests to make sure they do not have the virus.

It's football, but not quite as we know it. But football nonetheless.
