Another half-chance for Villa but really, Mbwana Samatta should do better. It's curled in from the right and he sees it onto his head late.

He ends up flicking it wide but he was in a decent position.

Lovely ball from Lucas Digne to pick out Alex Iwobi on the right, that was quality. Alex Tettey's clearance is a shocker and it goes back to Iwobi but Norwich just about clear. The hosts have offered nothing so far.

George Baldock is invited to walk his way into the box as Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire both commit too heavily on the left.

His shot is blocked and Manchester United immediately go up the other end. Anthony Martial slips it right to Marcus Rashford for what looks like a tap-in, but he manages to poke it wide.

How? He slams the ground in frustration. Huge miss! Should be 2-0.

Alex Iwobi motors down the Everton right but has to check back inside. Everton well on top though, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin is close to a far-post header.

I do believe the extra game will have helped Aston Villa. They'll have more game time in the legs than Newcastle and will be a bit sharper.

Jonny Guckian: Just the kind of 6 yard box goal that Solskjaer wanted Martial to score more of this season. Great start by Man Utd's most attacking line-up.

James Ash: Man Utd taking the lead? It must be the preseason atmosphere.

And Solskjaer has won it: With the heat the comparative strength of United's bench could prove crucial tonight.

The hosts are starting to take control now. Paul Pogba tries to find Mason Greenwood on the right but it won't reach him.

Marcus Rashford then beats Oliver Norwood but can't get through Chris Basham.

John McGinn has space to weave in and out through midfield. He doesn't have too many options ahead of him so has a pop from long range.

It's not a great effort and it rolls into Martin Dubravka's arms. Villa are starting to get a few more half chances.

Richarlison breaks in behind the Norwich defence but he's just offside. The usual post-lockdown slow start at Carrow Road.

That is outstanding football from Aston Villa. It was a beautiful ball and a great chance. They look a lot more purposeful and positive. Dean Smith will be delighted with the start his side have made.

Southampton completely bossed Norwich, it was men against boys. They looked very naive.

Norwich are quite happy to let Everton have the ball, there's no desire to press high which I thought their formation was going to be about today.

Wolves growing into the game after a slow start. No real sign of Adama Traore yet, who was electric when he came on against West Ham.

They definitely have.

Ezri Konsa swings a ball in but Trezeguet can only half-volley it over from the back post. Decent chance!

This doesn't look like some of the other games we've seen. Both teams have made a very good start.

That Man Utd corner was aimed at Harry Maguire but he doesn't get enough on it. Paul Pogba brings it back up through the middle but Bruno Fernandes loses possession.

Everton, in salmon pink this teatime, are seeing plenty of early ball. Norwich dropping off.

Nathan Ake is alright. Play on.

Oliver Norwood sprays a ball over to the right. It's crossed into the middle but is over everybody's head in the box.

Sheffield United enjoying the early possession here. Anthony Martial manages to win a corner on the counter-attack though.
