Eibar are in their sixth successive season in Spain's top-flight but have work to do if they are to extend their stay in La Liga.

They resume their season 16th in the table - two places and two points above the relegation zone.

They lost 4-0 at home to Real in November and arrive in the Spanish capital on the back of four defeats in their last five games.

After this game they host a Basque Country derby with Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday (18:30 BST).

This is going to be a strange experience for the likes of Luka Modric and Eden Hazard.

Real Madrid were watched by a crowd of 78,000 last time they played at home.

Not only is this game behind closed doors, it's also being played away from Real's usual surroundings at the Bernabeu.

All six of Real's remaining home games are being played at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano, which is situated at the club's training base and is usually used by the youth team.

That is because their Bernabeu home is being renovated.

"We're used to playing at the Bernabeu but we'll adapt to the circumstances," said boss Zinedine Zidane. "We've trained there, the dimensions are the same and we're ready to play at the Di Stefano"

After Barcelona marked their return to action with an easy 4-0 win away to Mallorca on Saturday, Eibar's visit is a must-win for Real. Any other outcome would be hugely damaging in their pursuit of a first La Liga title since 2017.

This is Real's first match since 8 March. They've had more than enough time to mull over a shock 2-1 defeat at Real Betis which handed the title initiative back to Barcelona.

"It's our worst game of the season," boss Zinedine Zidane said afterwards. "We lacked energy, football, possession, aggressiveness.

"It's an off day and that can happen. I'm responsible. We can't go mad, but we're not happy."

Nineteen goals, Lionel Messi back on the scoresheet, and a pitch-invader in a game with no fans - La Liga has already provided plenty of drama since it returned on Thursday.

What will happen tonight?

Gareth Bale is on the bench for Real Madrid as they name three changes to their XI from their most recent game on 8 March.

In come Dani Carvajal, Eden Hazard and Rodrygo for Vinicius, Lucas Vazquez and Eder Militao.

Eibar, who share the same form as Real - one win in their last five - make four changes of their own.
