Preston boss Alex NeilImage source, Rex Features

Preston's disappointing results since the return of the Championship continued as they were beaten 1-0 by in-form Derby.

The result leaves North End, who were celebrating becoming the first club to play 5,000 league games in English football, ninth in the table, four points behind sixth-placed Cardiff.

"In the first half I thought we looked quite threatening but we struggled to come to terms with their passing at times," Preston boss Alex Neil told BBC Radio Lancashire. "Then Wayne Rooney produces a bit of quality.

"In the second half we were much improved and right on top of them but for all the pressure we had we couldn't find that bit of magic to get the next goal.

"We put some great balls in the box and put as many attacking players on the pitch as we can, and it's frustrating when you don't get that clear-cut chance you're searching for."
