Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta reckons that the fixture schedule is likely to mean that more of the clubs younger players get a chance as the season draws to a conclusion.

The Gunners currently face at least 11 games between 17 June - 26 July.

"We don't know how the players are going to respond physically because we have had a really short preparation time," he said.

"We have to use them, we have some really talented young boys that are asking for chances. I'm sure at other clubs the situation will be the same and I think at some stage we will be forced to use some of them with the amount of games that we are going to be playing in that space of time."

Now it probably won't surprise you to know that Mikel Arteta is a student of the German Bundesliga at the moment.

But while watching games is nothing new from a tactical or scouting perspective, he has been more focused on how clubs have been dealing with playing away from fans.

"I’ve watched some games from the Bundesliga, but then when I was at the Emirates and there is no crowd and you cannot steal that energy, push or drive, the game is different," he said.

"The intensity has dropped a little bit and I think the physical state of the players is not as it was three months ago, so you can sense that as well, and that urgency doesn’t exist anymore from the crowd and how passionate the crowds are here in England, but we have to adapt.

"We have to experience it and find ways to motivate our players in moments."

Arsenal were enjoying somewhat of a revival under Mikel Arteta when the Premier League season was suspended in March.

The Spaniard is unbeaten in all seven of his away games in all competitions for the Gunners, which is the longest ever unbeaten away start to a managerial reign in Arsenal’s history.

So what do he and his players have in store for Manchester City?

"We have to take every game in the same way, to go there and win the game. We know that every stadium and every opponent is completely different.

"I have to try to convince my players to focus on what we have to do, we cannot control everything that Man City does, it's impossible. Even if we want to and I will drive the players mad in order to do that.

"So I just try to convince them on what we can do to try and beat them, what is the best plan possible for us to have the best possible chance to compete in that game and to win it. Let's see how much we are able to do that because here it's easy, but to go there on the pitch and show it for 96 minutes is different.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta says he has pretty much a full complement of players to pick from for their trip to Manchester.

He then goes on to talk about the impact that the City boss Pep Guardiola has had on his career.

"He was an influence for me since I was 15 years old and we met at Barcelona, both as players, Arteta said.

"In my coaching career and my personal life, he has an enormous influence. If I have to talk about the person he is, his values, the way he has treated me and how he deals with the players and the staff around him, its phenomenal.

"As a coach, I have learned so much from him, we have spent some amazing moments together, some difficult ones as well, but the experience next to him has been incredible."

More from the Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta: "I think we have found the right balance, and the most important thing was to provide the players with a safe environment to work where they could feel where there was no risk, or a very, very limited risk, to develop their profession.

"I think we have managed to do that and from now on, the physical part is really good and the mental side as well has been a challenge over those three months. Now let’s see how ready we are to compete."

Now then the Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta unsurprisingly had a follow-up question on whether he thinks his star forward, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has had his head turned by talk of a move away from the club.

Here's what he had to say: "I think at the moment I am extremely happy with how he's been performing and behaving."

"I have a really good relationship with him and we can discuss face to face a lot of things. So far as I'm aware I think he's very happy at the club."

Arteta also suggested the coronavirus shutdown had played at least some part in the slow progress of negotiations, adding: "In a different context we'd have liked to do things much quicker but obviously it is unprecedented times.

"That brings a lot of uncertainty. But things are getting clearer and clearer every day that we are a step closer to getting back playing football and we want to move forward."

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta says he is "pretty positive" about tying forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but that the onus is on the club to show him why he should stay.

Aubameyang's contract at Arsenal expires in June 2021 and has called the decision around agreeing a new contract with the club "possibly the most important" of his career.

The 30-year-old Gabon international has scored 61 goals in 97 appearances for the Gunners since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2018.

"We have many discussions with Pierre, with his family and his agent," Arteta said.

"I'm pretty positive we can find the right agreement for all parties. I think it is our responsibility to make him feel this is the right next step in his career.

"In order to do that he needs to feel valued, he needs to feel he belongs to us and that we want him.

"He really needs to believe we can take this club forward in the way we want to and he's going to be a key part."

Up the road (well from where I am anyway) in Scotland, Championship clubs have "voted overwhelmingly" to play a 27-match season - nine fewer games than normal.

And it has been confirmed that Hearts and Inverness Caledonian Thistle will feature in the division, after a proposal for an expanded Premiership failed to gain enough support.

The league announced the 10 second-tier clubs "approved" a shortened season, which will start behind closed doors.

A provisional start date of 17 October has been set for the 2020-21 campaign.

By the way...anyone who regularly watches the Bundesliga will not be surprised in the slightest to know that Bayern Munich have pretty much got things wrapped up.

Bayern lead second-placed Dortmund by seven points with three games to play, and victory at Werder Bremen on Tuesday would secure an eighth consecutive Bundesliga title.

Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre says he will resist the urge to throw Erling Braut Haaland back into his starting XI to avoid putting the teenager under unnecessary strain.

Haaland, 19, has been in scorching form since joining Dortmund in January and came off the bench to score a late winner at Fortuna Duesseldorf on Saturday which secured Champions League qualification for next season.

The Norway international Haaland has scored 14 goals in 15 games in all competitions since arriving from Salzburg. However, with a top-four finish guaranteed, Favre said Haaland is likely to be given a rest at home to relegation-threatened Mainz on Wednesday.

"He is 19. It's normal that he is sometimes tired," Favre said.

"He's still growing up, has been injured two or three times since he's been here. We have to be careful and dose out what he does. Otherwise it will be dangerous."

I'll be honest some of those stats didn't look that great if you're an Arsenal fan.

However, there is prior to the Premier League's suspension things were looking a little brighter for the Gunners, who had won their last three top-flight games on the spin.

And goalkeeper Bernd Leno reckons, that his side also has an ace up its sleeve given his boss was formerly Pep Guardiola's assistant at the Etihad.

"We can surprise City because nobody has the rhythm," he said.

"I'm sure we can have a good start. Mikel (Arteta) knows every player and he knows the manager better than anyone."

As we're still waiting for Mikel Arteta, I thought I'd serve up a sprinkling of stats that surround Arsenal's trip to Manchester City.

Show Racism the Red Card has asked the Premier League to auction off players' specially designed shirts to raise money for anti-racism causes.

The charity's chief executive Ged Grebby has written to Premier League counterpart Richard Masters to see if SRtRC, Kick It Out and clubs' community departments could benefit from cash raised from the shirts.

Players' names will be replaced on the back of their shirts with 'Black Lives Matter' for the first 12 matches of the restarted top flight season.

The league will also support any player who chooses to 'take a knee' before or during matches, as Real Madrid's Marcelo did after scoring in Sunday's 3-1 LaLiga win over Eibar.

While we're waiting for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, some other news appears to be filtering out of north London, but it's not great if you're a Tottenham fan.

According to the Telegraph,, external Japhet Tanganga has been ruled out of Spurs' restart due to a stress fracture to his back.

The defender's absence is probably not what manager Jose Mourinho would want with Manchester United in town on Friday evening (20:15 BST).
