    Real Madrid 0-0 Valencia

Valencia goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen was much the busier goalkeeper in that first half, making a total of eight saves.

The season-high a La Liga match this season is 14 by Mallorca's Manolo Reina in a 5-2 defeat at Barcelona in December.

    Real Madrid 0-0 Valencia

That was a class half, very entertaining with end-to-end action, but it remains goalless.

Save number eight of the half for Jasper Cillessen as the Valencia man dives low to his right to gather Eden Hazard's low driller from the edge of the box.

Corner for Real Madrid on the stroke of half-time, swung in by Toni Kroos but Casemiro's header from the back post is easy for Jasper Cillessen.

Goes down as another save for the Dutchman.

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 44 mins

    Real Madrid 0-0 Valencia

Most of Real's chances have been from long range, now Valencia try the same as Geoffrey Kondogbia eyes one up from 30-odd yards out, it is a lovely hit, forcing Thibaut Courtois to dive high to his left to push the ball away.

    Great stop.

Valencia (heatmap on the right) have spent most of the first half defending their own box.

But they should be 1-0 up. You only need one chance!

Karim Benzema has got this one wrong.

A lovely cross is shaped into the area by Dani Carvajal, the Frenchman rises highest to meet it and instead of nodding it towards goal, tries to pick out Eden Hazard instead but does neither.

Just got a shot of Gareth Bale in the stands, feet up on the chairs in front, looking like a man who would rather be playing the back nine at Carnoustie.

Not quite sure what the referee spotted.

    Valencia should be one up.

    What's he doing there??

Real right-back Dani Carvajal somehow wriggles through three Valencia challenges and finds himself one-on-one with Jasper Cillessen.

But in unfamiliar territory, he takes a heavy touch and stabs a shot at goal which is booted away by the Dutch goalkeeper.

    WOWWW!

Big controversy here as referee Jose María Sanchez Martinez decides Rodrigo is offside and that a Valencia player got a flick on the ball while running through.

I am not sure about that one, really not. Valencia have been done.

    But hold on.

It is being checked, it is not for offside because Rodrigo looks on from the run.

The referee has come to the side of the pitch to have a look for himself on the monitor.

    Rodrigo

    Well, well.

Real Madrid have done all the running but Valencia have created the two biggest chances of the match and broken the deadlock.

It is former Real man Rodrigo who strokes in from six yards out following Carlos Soler's sublime reverse pass, cutting the Real backline to shreds.

    Huge cheers in Barcelona.
