  1. GREAT SAVE!published at 6 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Newcastle

Delightful ball by Jonjo Shelvey, arcing it long into the path of the willing runner in Callum Wilson, but the striker's cross is put out by Issa Diop at the far post.

From the corner, Federico Fernandez flicks a header on at the near post, but Lukasz Fabianski makes a stunning reflex save to deny the Argentine centre-back.

  2. CLOSE!published at 4 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Newcastle

This is the threat that Callum Wilson offers.

The £20m signing from Bournemouth is found in the box by Jamal Lewis' cross, but England international Wilson nods just wide of the box.

  8. 'I think the fans are delighted with Newcastle signings'published at 19:52 British Summer Time 12 September 2020

West Ham v Newcastle (20:00 BST)

    Alan Shearer
Former Newcastle captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think it has been a positive week for Newcastle. They've had to work very hard to get the signings in and I think the fans are delighted with those signings.

It was blatantly obvious they needed a goalscorer. They now have a proven Premier League goalscorer in for relatively cheap and who guarantess you goals.

On speaking to Callum Wilson ahead of his Newcastle move:

He text asking about the football club. He had more or less made his mind up. I just gave my opinion on what the club was like and all I said to him was about the fans - if you give your all they will love you. If you're scoring goals it's a fantastic place to play football.

  9. 'We can do better'published at 19:49 British Summer Time 12 September 2020

    Liverpool 4-3 Leeds

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to Sky Sports: "What a game, what an opponent, what a performance from both teams. A proper spectacle, I loved that.

"It is pretty rare you see that many goals in a game, we have left space for improvement in our defending but that is not unusual for a first game. Our players have played a few days ago for their countries so it is possible.

"The opponent forced us to make mistakes, we can do better, we will do better but I loved a lot about the game against a well-organised, passionate side like Leeds. We used our skills to cause them problems, we could have scored more and in the end we used set-pieces which is fine by me.

"It is not like riding a bike, you can lose something in pre-season and it takes time to all come together again. I am really positive about this game. Leeds will have a good season if they can keep up that intensity and they did it in the Championship with more games so why not?"

Don't know how Bielsa does it but they had players turning up all over the pitch overunning us.. There's something about him. 3 points though!!

    Alex, Bristol

Liverpool in danger of being left behind in the transfer market defence wise. Trent and robbo are world class going forward but let's be honest they are liabilities defensively so they need a world class defender next to VVD.. Conceded 3 vs Leeds... What will happen against the big boys? They way others have strengthened ill be very very surprised if they win the league

    Liverpool 4-3 Leeds

    Leeds United

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa, speaking to Sky Sports: "Liverpool made it hard for us to neutralise them.

"In the second half especially we struggled to get the ball from defence to attack.

"We also stopped Liverpool playing like they usually do and we made a lot of effort. During large parts of the game we were able to match them."

  12. 'Both teams played a similar style'published at 19:44 British Summer Time 12 September 2020

    Liverpool 4-3 Leeds

    Leeds United

Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford, speaking to BBC MOTD: "We just said in the changing room we can take positives from the game but we're going to be down tonight because we didn't get a result.

"I should have scored before I actually scored. The fact we created chances, there are positives to build on. We do play energetic football and high pressing football. Both teams played a similar style."

  14. Hammers fragilitypublished at 19:38 British Summer Time 12 September 2020

West Ham v Newcastle (20:00 BST)

    West Ham

The Hammers had, it seems, some mental problems when going ahead last season.

That figure mentioned above was the highest in the top-flight in 2019-20.

Has manager David Moyes had enough time to work on that issue with his vulnerable squad?

  15. 'Leeds had a great game' - Salahpublished at 19:36 British Summer Time 12 September 2020

    Liverpool 4-3 Leeds

    Liverpool

Liverpool hat-trick hero Mo Salah, speaking to Sky Sports: "Leeds are a tough team. They had a great game and reacted really well.

"I'm happy about the result and we have to keep on improving. It's important for me to stay focused. We had a good game."

  16. Super Salahpublished at 19:35 British Summer Time 12 September 2020

    Liverpool 4-3 Leeds

    John Murray
    BBC Radio 5 Live commentator

It has been a real thriller between the winners of the top two divisions in English football last season.

Right from the start it was end-to-end stuff, some of the defending was questionable at best.

Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds have shown real intent and intention and gave Liverpool a real scare.
