    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Finland

    Nope, it's not happening yet.

The Republic of Ireland win another corner, from which Shane Duffy goes down under pressure. Loud calls for a penalty follow from the hosts but there didn't appear to be much in it.

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Finland

No clear-cut chances for the Brighton forward so far, but Aaron Connolly is battling hard for his side.

He's won another free-kick and Robbie Brady will have the chance to whip in a cross from near the corner flag here.

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Finland

Good hold-up play from Aaron Connolly there, who earns his side a free-kick following a push in the back and the chance to apply some pressure on the Finland box.

Stephen Kenny's side are forced back again though...

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Finland

Frustrating for Callum O'Dowda, who is flagged offside midway into the Finland half as the hosts try patiently to work their way upfield.

Finland have been very organised at the back and look relatively comfortable dealing with the Republic of Ireland attack for now.

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Finland

We're approaching the half hour mark.

What have you made of this so far, Republic of Ireland fans?

There has been plenty of promising build-up play but a lack of cutting edge about the hosts so far.

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Finland

Captain Shane Duffy is having words with Sheffield United's Enda Stevens after Finland make good progress down the right to force a corner.

That's three or four corners already won by Finland now but again the visitors can't make anything of the set-piece opportunity.

  7. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Finland

Enda Stevens delivers a good cross from the left but it evades both Adam Idah and Robbie Brady.

It was well worked between Aaron Connolly and Brady to set up teh cross and the hosts had numbers up there. Good signs.

  8. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Finland

Skipper Shane Duffy is at full stretch to cut out a cross from the right and concedes a corner.

It's Robert Taylor who whips the ball in once again and this time it's headed over for a goal-kick.

Lucy Ford: There will be half and half shirts wore in the O’Shaughnessy household today.

That would be interesting to see... Daniel O'Shaughnessy opted to play for his country of birth, Finland, instead of the country of his father’s birth, the Republic of Ireland, back in 2012.

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Finland

Not a bad start to this game by any means.

The hosts are certainly finding more enjoyment down the right flank where Callum O'Dowda and Adam Idah are finding pockets of space.

Nothing really clicking inside the penalty area for Stephen Kenny's side so far though.

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Finland

The Republic of Ireland respond as Callum O'Dowda produces an inviting low cross from the right but is unable to pick out a team-mate.

The danger is only half-cleared however, though Harry Arter is unable to make a decent connection with his follow-up.

A first half chance for the hosts.

  12. CLOSE!published at 9 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Finland

Teemu Pukki is through on goal but Darren Randolph does really well to make himself big and block the Finland frontman's shot.

The Republic of Ireland back line switched off completely there but Randolph ensures it remains 0-0 for now.

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Finland

Finland have settled into their own passing rhythm too now.

The ball is spread right where Robert Taylor goes down under a challenge from Robbie Brady.

The Burnley man gets the benefit of the doubt despite protests from the visitors - he may have been a little fortunate there...

As a Brighton fan it is great to see Connolly and Molumby start this game, two very exciting prospects!

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Finland

John Egan makes a good covering challenge but concedes the game's first corner in the process.

What can Finland make of it?

Robert Taylor swings it in from the left but it's too high and there's no trouble for the Republic of Ireland's defence to deal with.

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Finland

The Republic of Ireland are currently unbeaten in seven home games in all competitions, winning four and drawing three since losing 1-0 against Wales in the 2018-19 Nations League.

They've started just as Stephen Kenny will have ordered this evening - dominating the early possession.

  19. A third straight 3-0?published at 16:58 British Summer Time 6 September 2020

Republic of Ireland v Finland (17:00 BST)

This is the first meeting between Republic of Ireland and Finland since August 2002, when Mick McCarthy's side won 3-0 in Helsinki.

Republic of Ireland have, in fact, won the past two meetings by that scoreline.

A third successive 3-0 would go down very nicely for Stephen Kenny today.

The teams are out for the national anthems and we will be under way shortly!

  20. The Nations League (briefly) explainedpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 6 September 2020

Republic of Ireland v Finland (17:00 BST)

The Nations League is separated into four divisions, with the top three divisions containing four groups with four teams - and each side facing their group opponents home and away.

The four teams topping their groups in League A head into the Nations League finals, while the winners of each group in divisions B, C and D will earn promotion. The teams finishing bottom in Leagues A and B will be relegated.

As far as the Republic of Ireland are concerned, they're in League B, Group 4, alongside Wales, Bulgaria and Finland.
