  1. 'We can't feel sorry for ourselves'published at 22:31 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2020

    RB Leipzig 3-2 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaking to BT Sport: "We started too late. Great spirit and comeback again. It's different to the Premier League, you can't give a team a three-goal lead and expect to come back. We were unlucky towards the end and you almost thought it was in at the last minute there.

"Of course you can't say we were good enough, we weren't. In a difficult group of course, the big defeat for us was the one away to Istanbul - that's where we lost the points we should have had.

"Today we were close but we knew we had to defend crosses and balls into the box and we just couldn't clear them.

"As a footballer you can't feel sorry for yourself. You feel sorry for a few minutes tonight and then we focus on a massive game on Saturday."

On whether Paul Pogba is happy at the club: "You have to ask Paul if he is happy or not, I won't speak for him. He's working hard in training and he needs to focus on his performances. Now is not the time to discuss transfers."

Ruaidhrí Ward: I can't see how Ole survives this. I don't blame him though. I blame Woodward, the Glazers, & most of all a group of players who only half press, only half commit, & only show urgency when it's too late. Too many chancers.

Andrew Morris: That sloppy, clueless, lost 15 min start dooms Utd to drop out of the Champions League & I saw it coming after last week's dismal effort against PSG. Leipzig just wanted it more. Tactically, OGS got it wrong - the wingbacks just got outplayed by their wingbacks.

    BBC Sport

It is a measure of Manchester United's fall from grace that in May it will be 10 seasons since they reached the Champions League final in 2011, when they were beaten by Barcelona at Wembley.

In that period United have won two individual Champions League knockout games - at home to Olympiakos in 2014 and away to PSG in 2018.

  7. 'We have to look at ourselves'published at 22:18 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2020

    RB Leipzig 3-2 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire speaking to BT Sport: "We started the game too slow. It wasn't good enough. The first 20 minutes we weren't at it. They put two balls in the box and we failed to deal with them.

"We have to look at ourselves, we gave ourselves too much to do. You've seen how close we came at the end but we started too slow and we can't keep falling behind.

"We said on Saturday at half-time, 2-0 down, the next goal is crucial and we said it again tonight. They made it 3-0 and the task becomes even bigger. The third goal proved to be the crucial one but even three down we came close at the end.

"I don't want to look at excuses. We have to go out and be aggressive, win balls. That's the basics. If you can't defend crosses you're going to lose games. I don't want to look at shape - it's not an excuse.

"It's a tough group but we felt we should get through. That's the standards of this club. I'm gutted for everyone, we worked so hard to reach this competition. No matter what group we got it would be tough. We have to do more."

Andrew Mitchell: I feel like Solskjaer has to go. Game after game the tactics are a shambles. All the spirited fight backs and individual moments of brilliance can’t continue to paper over the cracks.

Michael Reid: Surely Ole needs to take the blame for yet another awful formation decision? How can you also take off 2 left backs and replace them with a right footed right back?

  9. 'Why does it take going behind for United to actually show their true qualities'published at 22:16 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2020

    RB Leipzig 3-2 Man Utd

    Phil Neville
England Women manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

Manchester United have fallen totally short because of their consistency. Why does it take going a goal, two goals down, 3-0 down tonight before they actually throw caution to the wind, lose the shackles and drop everything and start piling forwards and showing their true qualities. They’ve fought back in the last four or five games but eventually you are going to lose a game like that.

  10. 'I had to score the goal - I'm not happy with that'published at 22:14 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2020

    Chelsea 1-1 Krasnodar

    Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Kai Havertz: "We can be happy. A draw today when we played a good match. There were a lot of changes but we played as a team.

"The first half was not too bad - we created chances, but we have to score a goal."

On his chance: "I had to score the goal. I'm not happy with that. I will try to do that next time."

On his form: "I'm feeling very good at Chelsea - the start was not my best. I give every day my best."

Juventus finished top of Group G thanks to their 3-0 win at Barcelona - with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice.

Barca had won their group in each of the past 13 seasons. The last time they didn't was 2006-07 when they finished below Chelsea.

  13. 'This game doesn't look as though it will be played tonight'published at 22:06 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2020

    PSG v Istanbul Basaksehir

    John Bennett
    BBC World Service Sport

Istanbul alleged that a racist word was used when Pierre Webo was sent off. All the players left the field. Looking at TV pictures now, they are packing up. The game could happen tomorrow. Reports in France say that discussions have been ongoing and some players from Istanbul wanted to restart but some players didn't.

The Turkish president has made a statement asking Uefa to intervene and condemning what has happened. Right now, as it stands, this game doesn't look as though it will be played tonight.

  14. 'You cannot go 3-0 down against the best teams'published at 22:05 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2020

    RB Leipzig 3-2 Man Utd

    Phil Neville
England Women manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

It went wrong in the first 30 minutes - they were all over the place. Leipzig got the better of it tactically. When Donny van de Beek and Paul Pogba came then they got some control of the game but for the first 30 minutes they were absolutely all over the place.

To go a goal behind after two minutes and a soft goal 10 minutes later to go 2-0 down left them a mountain to climb. They do have tremendous spirit and fight back but against the best teams you cannot go 3-0 down.

Harrison Short: Don’t know what Manchester United expect. When you turn up for 20 mins of every 90 your luck is bound to run out

Mark Thompson: Ole experimented with the team in a must-win game and came out looking clueless. So frustrating.

Still no word of what's happening in Paris. Officials are in the tunnel on their phones.

It's gone 11pm in France now so I can't see them restarting this game tonight.

Could they play their game tomorrow? The result decides whether PSG or Leipzig win the group.

    Chelsea 1-1 Krasnodar

Chelsea miss out on a club record Champions League group stage points haul, finishing top of Group E on 14 points.

Sevilla's 3-1 win over Rennes means they end up a point behind the Blues.

Krasnodar are in the Europa League.

  20. Postpublished at 21:56 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2020

That United result means Paris St-Germain go through to the knockout stages, presuming there aren't any points deductions or punishments to come.
