That Senegal game is one of six international friendlies on Friday, before the Nations League returns at the weekend with the Republic of Ireland hosting Wales (Sun, 14:00 BST), while England, Scotland and Northern Ireland are also in action on Sunday.

We'll have live text commentary on those games, and Saturday's EFL action, but until then, thanks for joining us for reaction to Thursday's international games as Scotland and Northern Ireland moved within one game of qualifying for Euro 2020. I'll leave you with some of today's top stories:

Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has returned to Chelsea after injuring his right thigh while training with Senegal.

The 28-year-old joined the Blues on a five-year deal last month and kept a clean sheet on his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace.

Chelsea said Mendy "had a medical examination in a hospital in Rabat, where Senegal are due to play Morocco".

The club added: "Mendy has since returned to Chelsea where he will undergo further examinations."

I'm an Everton fan and loving the hype around DCL right now, but to suggest he should unseat Kane for England is ludicrous. This is a guy who consistently scores 20/25 a season and won the golden boot with England.

    England 3-0 Wales

Tottenham defender Ben Davies said it was a proud moment to take the Wales captain's armband for the first time from the start of Thursday's friendly with England.

But this was tempered by the 3-0 loss and the absence of family to see it inside Wembley, with the match played behind closed doors.

Wales are waiting to discover the extent of Kieffer Moore's injury after the striker was forced off at Wembley.

Moore, 28, bruised a toe in the first half, potentially making him a doubt for Sunday's Nations League match in the Republic of Ireland.

Wales are light on forward options, with Hal Robson-Kanu already out of the squad after breaking his arm.

"We're going to assess it," said Wales manager Ryan Giggs. "We're not too sure [if Moore will be fit for Sunday]. He's hurt his toe so we're going to try and get a scan in the morning [Friday].

"At the moment it's painful. We won't know until we get a scan how he is. I thought he was a handful, a real threat. The game changed with the [first England] goal but when Kieffer went off, we lost that target.

"And also on set-pieces, where we conceded two bad goals, he's a big part of that, defending set-pieces."

  7. West Ham target Bournemouth striker Kingpublished at 11:44 British Summer Time 9 October 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

West Ham have targeted Bournemouth's Norway striker Joshua King as they try to bolster manager David Moyes' squad.

After Felipe Anderson joined Porto on loan and fellow midfielder Jack Wilshere was released, the Hammers only have 20 senior players.

Premier League clubs can still sign players from English Football League sides until 17:00 BST on 16 October.

King scored six goals in 26 Bournemouth appearances in last season as they were relegated to the Championship.

The 28-year-old was linked with former club Manchester United in January and has been identified by West Ham, with Moyes looking for a forward, as well as a central defender and, potentially, a midfielder.

England manager Gareth Southgate praises Dominic Calvert-Lewin after the in-form Everton striker scored on his international debut in Thursday's friendly win over Wales.

Feel like Kane is getting some uncalled for stick. He's been brilliant this season and consistently scores for club and country. Far more to his game than a lot of people give him credit for. Yeah maybe consider starting him upfront with DCL and Super Jack in behind but at the moment he is still our best striker.

  10. Scotland extend unbeaten runpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 9 October 2020

Scotland 0-0 Israel (AET, Scotland win 5-3 on pens)

    • Scotland have gone six games without defeat in all competitions (W4 D2) for the first time since October 2017 under Gordon Strachan (a run of seven).
    • Despite having 17 attempts, Scotland failed to land a single shot on target in a home game for the first time since September 2013 against Belgium.
    • Despite there being 29 shots in this game, only one was on target - Eran Zahavi’s attempt for Israel in the 72nd minute.

Jafairbairn: Did no one *really* want to qualify last night? If either team in any match really came out to win there would have been more exciting games. Everyone played for pens!

To be fair, Scotland didn't even manage a shot on target...at least they were spot on in the shootout.

  12. Fine margins, magic McGinn, spot on Bara - Five things we noticedpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 9 October 2020

Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-1 Northern Ireland (AET, Northern Ireland win 4-3 on pens)

    Andy Gray
    BBC Sport NI

Phew! Northern Ireland made it through to the Euro 2020 play-off final after a nail-biting encounter with Bosnia-Herzegovina in Sarajevo.

For the first time, NI were involved in a shootout and subsequently delivered after a 1-1 draw against a heavily-fancied Bosnian side, which contained the star names of Edin Dzeko and Miralem Pjanic.

It was the perfect night for Steven Davis, who celebrated the win as he became Northern Ireland's record appearance holder.

With Slovakia now standing in their way, here are five things we noticed from the game as Ian Baraclough picked up his first win as Northern Ireland boss.

  14. Jennings delight for Davis on passing his caps landmarkpublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 9 October 2020

Legendary goalkeeper Pat Jennings said in the build-up to Thursday's game that he is delighted for Steven Davis as the Northern Ireland captain prepared to surpass his caps record.

Jennings made 119 appearances for NI but Davis is set to go one better in Thursday's Euro 2020 play-off semi-final against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

"I've texted Steven to congratulate him on the record and wish him well for the big game," said Jennings.

"I'm happy for him - records are there to be broken and I've no regrets."

Davis had previously said: "I didn't really give it too much thought leading up to equalling Pat's record. But after receiving so many messages from then, it makes you sit up and realise it's a hell of an achievement.

"It's hard to sum up in words what it actually means, it probably wouldn't do it justice - there's been a lot of sacrifices made to get to this point. I've always enjoyed meeting up with the squad and there has been a great bond with the players throughout my time. The fans have always been fantastic to me as well so it's something I'm incredibly proud of."

DCL and Danny Ings should start ahead of Kane every time. Kane is a great poacher no doubt but those two are far better all rounders in my opinion, Kane would be better as an impact sub in tight games.

  16. Davis breaks NI caps recordpublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 9 October 2020

Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-1 Northern Ireland (AET, Northern Ireland win 4-3 on pens)

    • Northern Ireland progressed in a competition via a penalty shootout for the first time, only once previously have they gone beyond 90 minutes – winning 2-1 against Czechoslovakia in the 1958 World Cup.
    • NI have scored in seven successive away games for the first time since November 1964 (7 games).
    • Niall McGinn scored his first away goal for Northern Ireland since September 2014 (against Hungary). He has scored twice in his last four starts for his country, more than he managed in his previous 27 such games combined (one goal).
    • Steven Davis made his 120th appearance for the Northern Ireland senior team, becoming the outright most capped player for his country, moving past Pat Jennings (119).

  19. Fresh faces give Southgate welcome headachepublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 9 October 2020

    England 3-0 Wales

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Wembley

England manager Gareth Southgate was finally left with the right sort of headache after Wales were comfortably dismissed.

It has not been the easiest of years for Southgate, the carefully-cultivated image of his squad dented by a series of off-field incidents bolted on to some decidedly colourless performances on England's return after the coronavirus lockdown.

England needed a lift - and it came here in bundles amid the surreal atmosphere of an empty Wembley.

Southgate's 12 months of unwanted distractions started with dropping Raheem Sterling after his altercation with Joe Gomez at St George's Park, and later saw him withdraw Harry Maguire from a squad after the defender's arrest in Greece.

He also had to send Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood home for breaching Covid-19 guidelines in Iceland, and just this week excluded Tammy Abraham, Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho for failing to follow government rules in the build-up to the Wales match.

Southgate deserved a chance to finally talk about good things in his England camp and he was given plenty to go at here, not least a debut goal for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and a thrilling display by Jack Grealish. And to add to Southgate's pleasure, it was all done with an inexperienced England side.

England's starting XI featured players from 10 different clubs - Burnley, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal, Liverpool, Wolves, Everton x2, Spurs, Leeds, Southampton and Aston Villa. It's the most for an England match since May 1997 against South Africa.

England manager Gareth Southgate played during that game in 1997, and it's the current crop of England youngsters which have given him much to ponder as he prepares for Euro 2020...
