West Brom manager Slaven Bilic: "Matheus Pereira and Branislav Ivanovic both tested positive for Covid-19 so they have to isolate for 10 days. It is the situation we cannot affect.

"It is a set back, it happened a few days a ago. It is a big blow, we found out on Tuesday, Wednesday and we have put a team out at is very good and we have to fight and play and every chance is there for a good performance and to get something out of the game.

"I am looking for a response of playing like we have done for full games. We have to stretch it for the whole game and do our best. If we do that we will have a chance.

"The result always matters especially before the international break where you want two weeks of good atmosphere. It is not that we are there alone, we are there with other teams and creating a mini league and hopefully there will be a few more clubs or we can get out.

"I have told the players 'don't be ashamed of the situation, don't lose the belief or confidence. Treat every game like it is the last one of your lives.'"

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho: "It is the natural evolution of things. The Premier League is more intense than the Europa League group phase and that is the best competition for Gareth Bale to develop. The Premier League needs to be taken step by step and today was a good moment for him after 65 minutes on Thursday. With Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn injured, our options are less. Gareth is working hard and deserves a start. We think it is the right time.

"We had a surprise with our attitude against Antwerp and in the Premier League there are no doubts that if the approach is not correct you have no chance. You will always win, lose and draw matches but not because of attitude. I would be very surprised if any Premier League player is caught out by surprise on the quality of the opponent.

"They play with five at the back and in three in midfield. They will try to be strong an compact and not concede goals. They play with two attackers who have agility and speed and can hurt you."

West Brom have flattered to deceive so far since their promotion from the Championship.

They play neat football but other than the home game against Chelsea, when they let a 3-0 lead slip and eventually drew, they have struggled for goals, scoring just one in the last four games.

Bilic feels the key is more aggression judging by his programme notes.

"We have looked like a team who is good on the ball but who doesn't want to hurt the opponent, especially when we don't have the ball," he said.

"We have to be more streetwise, more mature and dirty in the game."

Silvio Di Fede: As an Arsenal fan, I'll never forget the terrible Pires' penalty against ManCity trying to pass to Henry: that wasn't exactly their best play.

Richard Hillier: Worst penalty miss I saw live was Yann Kermorgant in the Cardiff vs Leicester 2010 playoff semi final. Cardiff won 4-3 in the shootout thanks to Kermorgant chipping it to the keeper!

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is the only survivor from a team that also included Scott Parker, who is now Fulham manager, and Kyle Walker, who later today will attempt to defeat Liverpool with Manchester City.

If Spurs avoid defeat in a seventh consecutive league game it will be their longest unbeaten run under Jose Mourinho, and their best since Mauricio Pochettino oversaw a 14-match sequence between December 2017 and April 2018.

Mourinho turning it around at Spurs, are they genuine title contenders this season?

Jose Mourinho had just started his second season at Manchester United when he was last in charge of a team that was top of the Premier League.

It might be only for a matter of a couple of hours - but Jose - and Tottenham - will go top with a win at West Brom today.

With Harry Kane and Son Hueng-min in excellent form, the odds are on a Spurs win, although West Brom famously won the last meeting between the sides, during a end of season revival in May 2018 under Darren Moore than did not stop them getting relegated.
