Another day goes by where relegation threatened Sheffield United and West Brom fail to win.

The picture looks extremely bleak for both of those sides.

West Brom manager Sam Allardyce speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It's never been as hard as it is at the minute [to come in to a club] with the pandemic. This one in the pandemic and the amount of games we gave had to play has made it difficult.

"We have to come to a conclusion on how we need to go forward - particularly after the FA Cup game against Blackpool becuase I will see my other players. We have to achieve first and foremost a clean sheet, without that we will find it difficult to get out of this position. That is the first priority for us. As we saw today and against Leeds, we leave too many spaces and let in too many goals at the moment.

"At the end of January we'll have a better picture and see what we have been capable of in the window to improve our squad. Everybody needs a boost. I've always managed with the players we've brought in to improve the team and it's got us out of relegation problems. That's the way for us to get out of trouble.

"What disappointed me was being in the game at 2-0 and then giving away a sloppy goal. If we have to do anything we have to cut that out. We've cut out getting sent off and now we need to cut out conceding stupid goals."

Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We had a big week, three games in seven days and we managed to win them and everything looks much better. It was difficult conditions but the team looked sharp from the start. It's a big win.

"After the results we had before we had to lift things straight away. Now we have got some discipline back. We look more creative in the final third and we look solid at the back.

"There were moments when we were two of three up that it was sloppy and I didnt like and we have to work on.

"Hopefully the weather will allow us to get back. It wasn't great in these conditions. The way it was looking an hour before [kick-off] we were concerned. I think the referee made the right call [to play] because the weather improved and they were able to clear the pitch."

West Bromwich Albion

West Brom boss Sam Allardyce: "Another game gone by where we learn more about the players we have. We have learnt an awful lot about what we can and cannot do. Some of the players who have not performed yet will get to play against Blackpool in the FA Cup. We need to work out a way of not trying to be as sloppy as we have been at conceding goals. It appears when we try to open up we leave opportunities for the opposition and we cannot cope. We got ourselves back in the game in the second half, scored a disallowed goal but put pressure on them then gave away one of the most bizarre goals for the third which killed out momentum. It was too much to try and climb 3-0 here.

"Three games in a short period of time has been the problem, the recovery time has been so difficult for the players and to get some real coaching in is almost impossible. That has taken its toll on the players. Most of the teams we will play against will be better than we are, we have to stick together, more determined and defend better. It is as simple as that. If we have to wait like we did against Liverpool, then it will have to be the way.

On January transfer window: "We have to get a better player than we already have and see if that is available. The squad needs a boost and if I have ever saved a club from this position, and I have, it is because we have had the capabilities of bringing a player in in January."

Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta: "A very convincing win, to win the last three games in the Christmas period is not easy. When the conditions were better we played some good football. We had to manage some bits at the end because the pitch was difficult.

"The first goal, the action from Kieran Tierney was terrific and great combinations for the second. Great attacking play today.

On Tierney: "He has been fantastic since I have been here, the moment he got back from his shoulder injury he has been terrific he is a lad who gives everything and brings a great energy."

"I am so happy we were able to achieve the target we had, the table looks completely different, the energy is different and wins bring confidence.

"We have a week now to prepare for another competition, we have great memories from winning the cup and enjoy tonight."

West Bromwich Albion

West Brom's Matt Phillips to Premier League Productions: "We have to do better as a team and defensively. We were beaten all around the park really.

"It's still early days [under Sam Allardyce], we've not had too much time on the training ground but we have time now to get some work done.

"I thought we started OK in both halves but we conceded very light goals. At this level you get punished, which we are doing.

"It's a bit of everything. Confidence is low, we're in the bottom three so it's going to be. Everyone has to stand up and put some work in.

"It's down to all 11 on the pitch. We need characters now. All we can do is look forward."

Arsenal

Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "The perfect way to start the new year, we've won three in a row so we want to keep building. We're really happy with the performance.

On Kieran Tierney's goal: "KT deserved that, he's put in amazing performances all year and that was something we've never seen before from him, right foot, top corner."

On his goal: "Amazing team goal and luckily I got the tap-in. I love those goals.

"It was so cold but I was getting so many touches in good positions so I enjoyed the game a lot."

On how Arsenal have turned their form around: "I feel like it's our attitude. We never stopped believing we are good enough to get wins. I'm just happy we're playing with much more confidence and it's working."

West Bromwich Albion

West Brom are the first side to lose consecutive home Premier League games by at least four goals in each defeat since Wigan in August 2010.

Arsenal

Kieran Tierney became the first Scottish player to score an away Premier League goal for Arsenal and the first to do so in the top-flight since Charlie Nicholas v Ipswich Town in March 1986.

With no club has Sam Allardyce won fewer points (1 – level with Crystal Palace) or conceded more goals (13) after his first four Premier League games in charge than he has with West Brom.
