  1. goal

GOAL - Barcelona 1-1 Valenciapublished at 45+4 mins

    Lionel Messi

    Pen saved from Messi!!! Woah!!

The ball is still alive though on the left.

Jordi Alba's delivery comes off the boot of a Valencia defender and arrives on the head of... Lionel Messi who makes amends.

    A remarkable past few minutes.

  2. PENALTYpublished at 16:02 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2020

    Barcelona 0-1 Valencia

    Out of almost nothing.

Lionel Messi plays in Antoine Griezman who gets in front of Jose Gaya and goes to ground following a nudge.

    Pen awarded after protests.

Waittttt!!! The ref is off to check the pitchside monitor.

    It's still a pen.

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 43 mins

    Barcelona 0-1 Valencia

What a glorious save from Ter Stegen to deny a header from Maxi Gimez which seemed certain to go in...hang on...action the other end...

  4. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Barcelona 0-1 Valencia

It's swift from Barca but rather predictable - the commitment to play the ball out to Jordi Alba on the left is a constant.

    Ineffective so far.

  5. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Barcelona 0-1 Valencia

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman appears to have told midfielder Frenkie de Jong to get ready. Yikes!

Or he is just telling him to have a wee jog.

  6. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Barcelona 0-1 Valencia

Barcelona break with pace through the middle.

Pedri feeds Antoine Griezmann in the area but his close-range angled shot fails to trouble Jaume Domenech. At least it was a sort of save by the keeper.

  7. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Barcelona 0-1 Valencia

That goal came moments after Ter Stegen has pushed away Carlos Soler's effort from the edge of the area.

Valencia look a big threat up front.

  8. goal

GOAL - Barcelona 0-1 Valenciapublished at 29 mins

    Mouctar Diakhaby

Quite atrocious defending from Barcelona allows Mouctar Diakhaby to make space for himself in the area to nod in from a corner.

When I say atrocious, it really was atrocious.

  9. CLOSE!published at 26 mins

    Barcelona 0-0 Valencia

The first serious effort on goal falls to... Valencia Denis Chryshev who forces a low save from Marc Andre ter Stegen.

It comes after Yunus Musah's attempt at a shot is thwarted by Max Gomez after they both get in a muddle!!

  10. Postpublished at 24 mins

    Barcelona 0-0 Valencia

Barcelona continue to probe, but the attack have yet to produce anything to worry keeper Jaume Domenech. In fact, he has yet to get his fingers dirty.

  11. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Barcelona 0-0 Valencia

Ronald Koeman looks a bit pensive on the bench as he takes a swig of water after watching Antoine Griezmann put a little too much pace and power on his delivery from the right.

It hasn't quite clicked for his side yet.

  12. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Barcelona 0-0 Valencia

Valencia are defending very well so far - they seem happy to let Barcelona have the ball near their area with the home attack finding it difficult to pull of their intricate quick passing.

  13. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Barcelona 0-0 Valencia

Superb last-ditch defending from Gabriel Paulista to cut out a low Barcelona cross from the right, intended for the six-yard area.

    Danger averted once more.

  14. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Barcelona 0-0 Valencia

Having spelt out Barca's threat, Koeman's men better keep the shackles on Valencia forward Maxi Gomez - he's been involved in at least one goal in five of his six La Liga games against Barcelona.

  15. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Barcelona 0-0 Valencia

Even at this early stage it feels like a goal is coming from the home side. Philippe Coutinho is playing neat one-twos with Lionel Messi around the edge of the area - up to this point the eagle-eyed Valencia defence has been up to the task.

  16. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Barcelona 0-0 Valencia

As expected Barcelona have started on the front foot and probe the Valencia area.

The visitors, however, launch a swift break which ends with a poor delivery from Jose Gaya on the left.

The players are out on the Nou Camp turf in the late autumn sun.

It's a very nice 15C in Barca - shorts weather, for Brits.

  20. 'Our mentality must be to be aggressive'published at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2020

    Barcelona v Valencia (15:15 GMT)

Valencia sit in mid-table with 14 points from 13 games this season, although they have defeated Real Madrid and Sociedad this campaign already.

Former Watford boss Javi Gracia said: “We are going to try to be brave and aggressive, both with and without the ball.

"Against FC Barcelona it’s difficult to have possession, and we will have to do a good job defensively. That means being aggressive with and without the ball. We have to know what we have to do at every moment of the game. Our mentality must be to be aggressive in both aspects of play.”
