The Wales man catches the ball beautifully with his weaker left foot but his effort flashes past the post.

Swansea threaten first in the second period as Andre Ayew and then Jay Fulton send balls into the danger area.

For a moment Barnsley look like they may get themselves into trouble as the ball ricochets around their six-yard box, but eventually it is cleared.

Barnsley have a battle on their hands as they look to turn this contest around.

Swansea, after all, have conceded only 13 goals in the league this season and have also clocked up 13 clean sheets.

The second half is off and running.

Can Barnsley find a way back into this game, or will Swansea build on that Ben Cabango goal late in the first period?

Swansea still have much work to do if they are to turn their half-time advantage into a sixth away league victory of the season.

But if they do go on to claim three points, Steve Cooper's team will be back within four points of Championship leaders Norwich City - and will move four clear of third-placed Bournemouth.

Barnsley, who began the game in 10th, will jump up to seventh if they can turn things around.

The whistle goes and it is Swansea who, somewhat fortuitously, turn around in front.

Steve Cooper's team had created almost nothing until Ben Cabango headed home from a long throw just before the break.

It has been a game of few chances, but Barnsley had been the more threatening side until Cabango struck.

Now Swansea, the team with the best defensive record in the EFL, have something to protect.

Swansea have a free-kick in a dangerous area but Connor Roberts opts not to whip it into the box.

Instead he tries to find Matt Grimes on the edge of the area but Barnsley clear easily.
