The Irish just need to get through to half-time now.

And now it's all Serbia. Filip Duricic almost puts the hosts ahead but his shot is blocked by a good Irish diving tackle.

  5. goal

GOAL - Serbia 1-1 Republic of Irelandpublished at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2021

    Dusan Vlahovic (40 mins)

And just like that Serbia are level. Stefan Mitrovic plays a ball forward and Dusan Tadic beats an Irish defender in the air to head it into the path of Dusan Vlahovic, who beats Dara O'Shea, before slotting home into the far corner.

  6. goal

GOAL - Portugal 1-0 Azerbaijanpublished at 20:23 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2021

    Maksim Medvedev OG (37 mins)

Tremendously unfortunate for Azerbaijan as they concede through an own goal.

They had been defending well against wave after wave of Portugal attacks but Shahrudin Mahammadaliyev compounds to punch Bernardo Silva's free kick onto Maksim Medvedev and the ball deflects into the back of the net.

Chance for Serbia as Fiorentina youngster Dusan Vlahovic flashes a header just wide of the far post.

    France 1-0 Ukraine

Couple of decent chances for the world champions aside from Antoine Griezmann's stunning strike.

And both have fallen to Olivier Giroud. The Chelsea forward should probably have helped himself to a couple of goals by now. Instead he's misdirected both a header and left-foot effort over from close range.

So happy we have finally scored, Alan Browne a much underrated player and that will give him a lot of confidence now. It would be nice to see Jason Knight be given game time tonight he is the future and needs to start playing.

A few goals elsewhere, Slovenia lead Croatia 1-0 in a Balkan derby, Russia are 1-0 up against Malta and the Czech Republic lead 3-1 against Estonia. Tomas Soucek has bagged there.

Josh Cullen is down getting treatment. The Anderlecht midfielder has played well.

Good news as he gets up and jogs away. He's fine.

    Serbia 0-1 Republic of Ireland

Callum Robinson gets a couple of crosses into the box but Serbia clear.

It's interesting to see an Irish team without mainstays of recent years like David McGoldrick (retired), Jeff Hendrick, Shane Duffy (both dropped) and Darren Randolph (injured).

The Irish are defending with a bank of five and another of four when Serbia are attacking. They do well to pressure the ball all the way back to Serbia's keeper.

Then it's great play by Matt Doherty to cut out a potentially dangerous through ball.

  18. goal

GOAL - France 1-0 Ukrainepublished at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2021

    Antoine Griezmann

Superb curling finish into the top left corner from 18 yards.

What a way for Antoine Griezmann to bring up his 34th international goal.

That takes the Barcelona forward level with David Trezeguet on Les Bleus' all-time top scorers list. He's still behind Thierry Henry (51), Olivier Giroud (44) and Michel Platini (41).

  20. Postpublished at 20:07 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2021

    Serbia 0-1 Republic of Ireland

Both of the Republic of Ireland's goals under Stephen Kenny have been headers - for all the talk of the new Irish style of playing proper football.

Shane Duffy headed in a last-minute equaliser against Bulgaria in Kenny's first game, then seven games without a goal, and now Alan Browne nodding in.
