St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin says his team can take inspiration from the side he captained to League Cup glory in 2013 going into this weekend’s semi-final against Livingston.

With Livingston on a 10-match unbeaten run they are considered favourites by many to progress to this season’s final.

"They might be favourites in a lot of people's eyes going into Sunday but I've been here before," Goodwin said.

"It's a one-off game and the team which ultimately plays to the level they are capable of is the one who goes through. We have to have the mindset that this is our year – and we do.

"There's not a great deal between the teams that are left. Hibs will be favourites in everyone's eyes because of where they sit in the table and the size of the club.

"The players are well aware of the importance of this game to everyone connected with the club. But the players don't need me to remind them how big it is and what's at stake."

As well as Sunday's League Cup semi-final against St Mirren, Livingston head coach David Martindale also has a 'fit and proper person' hearing with the Scottish FA to think about in the coming days.

However, Martindale says there is “no more” he can do to try and persuade the SFA that he is 'fit and proper' in terms of leading the club on a permanent basis.

He says the fact the club chief executive has highlighted a petition to gather signatures in favour of him is humbling but does not think it will influence those making the decision.

"My wife probably worries about it more than me," said Martindale.

"I’m a big believer on what will be will be and I have got every faith. I’m an honest individual and I do think I have earned the right to be past fit and proper and I just hope that the way I see things, and I may be biased in this respect, is the way the Scottish Football Association sees things.

"It's nice to see that people are taking the time [to sign the petition] and it's very, very humbling. But I would be a wee bit naive if I think it will have any bearing on the outcome if I’m honest."

On Motherwell's loan capture of Northampton forward Harry Smith, Fir Park boss Alexander added: “Harry was part of a promotion-winning team last season but he’s found himself just out of the picture down there.”

“So we feel we’re bringing in a player with a point to prove and I always feel that adds a motivation to a player – and we want motivated players.

“He hasn’t been starting games but he’s been involved in the squad a lot so he’s been training and is ready to go.”

Motherwell manager Graham Alexander says his side's first-half display against Rangers last weekend is the standard he is setting for his players as they travel to Pittodrie tomorrow.

“I’d say that first-half performance is the template for everything we want to be going forward," Alexander said.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s a team at the top of the league, middle or bottom, that’s how we want to play.

“It’s important that we give our players the confidence that we won’t change too much for whoever we play.

“I told them on my first day that 80% of our game won’t change but you do have to tweak things. But that first-half performance against Rangers was absolutely first class.

“We won’t always reach those heights but we’ll always strive for that.”

Aberdeen welcome 11th-placed Motherwell to Pittodrie tomorrow afternoon as the hosts look to put an end to a three-game winless run and jump back into third place.

"We have got an opportunity to show that we are, at the very least, the third best team in Scotland through our league campaign," said Dons boss Derek McInnes.

"Even if we win one of our games in hand then we will be sitting in third spot. We have done enough this season to suggest we can finish the season where we want to finish.

"We accept criticism, it is never going to go away for a manager. If you lose games, especially at a club like ours, you have got to expect criticism.

"My remit when I came in here was to try to get the club into the top six, try to win a cup if we can, try to compete at the right end of the table. We have continued to qualify for Europe in my time here, every year."

And the former Liverpool skipper says he will always strive to improve as he approaches the milestone.

"It's a journey I've enjoyed immensely," Gerrard added.

"I'm certainly in a better place, from an individual point of view, from what I've learnt.

"I want to continue to push myself in all areas to become a better manager.

"I'm really proud to have been manager here for 149 games and proud of the effort the players and support staff have given me. I hope there are many more to come.

"I'm looking forward very much to the future and pushing towards us being a successful group. That's the challenge for me and everyone at the club."

Saturday also sees two crucial top-flight fixtures take place which will have an impact at either end of the Premiership.

It's first against tenth at Ibrox as the league leaders welcome Ross County.

A win for Rangers will send them 23 points clear at the top, and Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard is boosted by the return of Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe.

"We've missed Jack," said Gerrard. "He's been a big player here and a big character. He's been ever so consistent."
