    FT: Antwerp 3-4 Rangers

Let's just say, Walter Smith would have been somewhere shaking his head until that last penalty went in.

Not quite the 2008 defensive masterclass. But it's all about the W, and no doubt it was a deserved one for Rangers.

It's far from over, but they've got a big advantage ahead of the return at Ibrox next week.

  2. Postpublished at 22:33 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2021

On the injuries to Kemar Roofe and James Tavernier, Steven Gerrard said: "Kemar's got another calf injury which is a concern for us he's getting too many of them at the moment so we might get someone to look at that in particular.

"James never comes off the pitch if he doesn't have to so that is a concern."

  3. 'I'm waiting on my heart rate to come down'published at 22:29 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2021

    FT: Antwerp 3-4 Rangers

Speaking to BT Sport Rangers manager Steven Gerrard said:

"I'm waiting on my heart rate to come down. From a manager's point of view there's a lot to analyse. Defensively we weren't at our best. But it's very difficult to win away from home in Europe. The experience of Scottish teams in Europe tells me that so I've got to give credit to the boys."

"We said to them at half-time not to panic. Even if the game stayed at 2-1 we still had the away goal. Ryan [Kent] when he came on gave us a lot. It's a crazy game to analyse right now but I've got to credit the player's character."

"I thought we didn't play the first half at full throttle. I thought we had opportunities to hurt this team but we weren't taking them."

    On Alfredo Morelos:

"Really pleased with his performance I thought he improved as the game went on. I think he did everything tonight except get on the scoresheet."

    Quote Message

Rangers are big favourites to go through now and away wins in Europe are never easy. They did concede very sloppy goals which is unusual this season but it could just be a one-off. Personnel for the next few weeks is going to be the main thing Gerrard's going to be looking at.

  6. 'Our attitude was brilliant' - Davispublished at 22:16 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2021

    FT: Antwerp 3-4 Rangers

Speaking to BT Sport Rangers midfielder Steven Davis said:

"First half we didn't feel quite at it but I felt we improved in the second half and exploited the spaces that were there.

"The most important thing was the reaction to the goals, credit to the boys for coming back into the game. I thought our attitude tonight was brilliant and we've got a good result to take back to Ibrox now."

    On the penalty he conceded:

"I was a little surprised [the penalty was given] I think the boy was a little bit clever with the way he went over."

    Quote Message

Rangers just needed to take a step back and compose themselves at half-time, and I think they did that. I thought they were good in the second half and the moments went for them, they capitalised on them and were the better second-half team.

  9. Postpublished at 22:05 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2021

    FT: Antwerp 3-4 Rangers

Fair play to Rangers, great character to come back from repeated blows, including two first-half injuries.

They'll be favourites to progress now for sure.

    Quote Message

This game has been ridiculous. They'll struggle to fit all these chances into the highlights package tonight! On one hand there's been some horrible defending but I think we should praise the attacking play we've seen tonight.

  11. FULL-TIME - Antwerp 3-4 Rangerspublished at 22:00 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2021

All over. What a game. I need a lie down.

  12. CLOSE!published at 90+4 mins

Substite Miyoshi curls just past Allan McGregor's post. Surely not another twist here?

    Antwerp 3-4 Rangers

    Neil McCann
Former Hearts & Rangers winger on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

Morelos again that's four goals that he's been involved in tonight, he's been exceptional. I've got a bit of sympathy for Seck given how close he is to the shot but it is a penalty for me. Barisic was lucky with his first penalty, but not that one.

  14. 'That is a penalty'published at 21:55 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2021

    Peter Lovenkrands
    Former Rangers striker

    Quote Message

That is a handball, no arguing about that. It’s close, yes but the shot is on target, so it’s a penalty all day long.

  15. goal

GOAL Antwerp 3-4 Rangerspublished at 89 mins

    Borna Barisic

This game man. Top bag from Barisic, brilliant finish.

Basically it came from Abdoulaye Seck's hand ball, as he threw his arm out to prevent Ryan Kent's shot from inside the box.

He's off, and Rangers are heading for victory. A sensational game of football.

  16. RED CARD - Seck (Antwerp)published at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2021

A deliberate handball. This is incredible!

  18. OFF THE LINEpublished at 86 mins

    Antwerp 3-3 Rangers

Ryan Jack makes a crucial goal-line clearance to deny Antwerp again!

Ritchie De Laet thought he'd prodded home from close range after a free-kick.

  19. GREAT SAVESpublished at 85 mins

    Antwerp 3-3 Rangers

    This game is just brilliant.

Ryan Kent is clean through, and replacement Antwerp keeper Ortwin De Wolf denies him with an outstretched leg.

Up the other end, Allan McGregor does the exact same thing. Drama.

  20. goal

GOAL Antwerp 3-3 Rangerspublished at 83 mins

    Ryan Kent

    Magnificent.

It's been coming. Just a simple give and go with Alfredo Morelos, and Ryan Kent drops the shoulder to go past a red shirt in the box, before rattling the ball into the far corner.

    Lovely stuff.
