The combination of Leeds' pressing and the ragged pitch is keeping the Chelsea players on their toes.

But Mason Mount is stitching a lot of the visitors' play together, even though it looks like Hakim Ziyech is taking up the number 10 role behind Kai Havertz. Thomas Tuchel wants the Moroccan international to be more direct towards the Leeds goal.

Plenty going on here.

Almost an awful/comical own goal. Luke Ayling smacks a clearance against Diego Llorente and there is a moment of horror for Leeds as the ball loops over Meslier.

The home side are relieved, though, to see the ball hit the bar and and land back in his grasp.

It's all going off.

Havertz is denied a goal from close range as a tackle prevents him applying a simple finish from a right-wing cross.

Moments later, Leeds have the ball in the net through Tyler Roberts but the flag is up. No need for VAR on that one. Bamford was well off in making the run to gather the ball and then square for his team-mate.

Chelsea into the groove Thomas Tuchel likes of his side, dominating the ball, moving it around in search of that extra yard and opening in an opponent's defence.

Alioski has to dive in to head back to Illan Meslier ahead of the charging Ziyech.

Who's Gareth got his eye on? Bamford? Phillips? Harrison? All of the aforementioned?

You've got to imagine Mason Mount's case is already a strong one for the Euros?

In his programme notes, Marcelo Bielsa says he is "relishing the challenge" of facing Thomas Tuchel's side, who he says are getting "better and better".

It is likely to be a different contest to when Chelsea beat Leeds 3-1 under former manager Frank Lampard in December. Confidence and equanimity seems to have been restored to the Blues squad.

Bielsa also addresses fans by saying that he "continues to miss you greatly at every game and the impact you have on the team".

Today being a case in point.

Stuart Dallas does a little tribute to Leeds-Chelsea games of old, charging in to foul Ben Chilwell.

In the 1970s that wouldn't even have raised the referee's eyebrow.

No drama. The game carries on with Phillips a part of it.

He's still feeling the knock a bit, though.

Leeds quickly into that high-pressing game of theirs, swarming over the Chelsea players as they play out from the back.

Worryingly for Leeds, Kalvin Phillips looks to have taken an early knock in a challenge with Mount.

Right, let's get this show on the road.

Chelsea will go third with a victory here. Leeds will go level on points with Arsenal in 10th if they can get the win.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will get a gentle introduction to the Leeds-Chelsea rivalry for the first league game at Elland Road between the two sides since 2003.

With fans inside, the place would be bouncing right now, but Tuchel will attempt to go 12 games unbeaten with the biggest obstacle perhaps being the pitch. Helder Costa has already slipped during the warm-up.

Whatever Leeds paid Tottenham for the turf, it was too much.

Leeds appear to have hit a bit of a rough patch, having lost five of their past seven Premier League matches - and failing to score in their past two.

Marcelo Bielsa's side could lose three successive league games for the first time since November 2017 today, but they can also set a club record of 19 successive league games without a draw.

They are winless in all six Premier League home matches against teams in the top half of the table...

Chelsea can set a new club record of four consecutive wins against Leeds United in all competitions.

The Blues can also win both league meetings with Leeds in a season for the first time since 1989.

Leeds' only victory in the past nine encounters was a 2-0 win in the Premier League, back in 2002.

Chelsea are unbeaten in their 11 matches in all competitions under Thomas Tuchel and have conceded just two goals.

Their 21 points since Tuchel's appointment is second only to Manchester City's 30 during that period.

They have also won five of their six competitive away fixtures under the German, all by a single-goal margin.

Chelsea are going great guns - they are now unbeaten in 11 games since Thomas Tuchel took charge, and they were just too good for Everton on Monday night.

Leeds, in contrast, have not been on a great run of form recently, with just one win in five league games. I don't think they've been playing that badly though, and they will definitely test Chelsea's improved defence.

Prediction: 2-1

The games between Leeds and Chelsea back in the 60s and 70s were played on some pretty awful, cut up, sand covered pitches. Today's one at Elland Road is light years ahead of those ones in terms of quality.

However, it would be fair to say the Whites' pitch has had a tricky season. The lack of a proper pre-season meant the club weren't able to get proper work done in time, meaning the original turf became pretty dire. They then paid Spurs a six-figure fee to get a replacement in but this has had its onw issues, not least of all with players unable to properly keep their feet at times.

Seeing the shots of it now, there are brown patches in places. Roll on the summer, when a proper job can be done.
