Aiden McGeady tries to shuffle his way into a shooting position but Tranmere set their shape really well to close down the space.

They sit in until the ball is secured and then send bodies flooding through in support.

It is a really smart system from Tranmere.

More good work from Aiden McGeady and a chance for Sunderland.

Danny Lloyd gave away possession and Conor McLauchlin gave the ball to the winger.

He whizzed a ball in but Charlie Wyke couldn't connect.

Superb break by Tranmere to open the field up and get Otis Khan in down the right, and after he wriggled his way into the box, the left foot shot is beaten away by Lee Burge.

Tranmere are gifted possession by Sunderland and look to make the most of it.

However, the Black Cats shut down the space and the ball goes all the way back to Scott Davies in goal.

It feels like the team that can calm this game down and can set the pace, will win it.

It's too scattergun and disjointed at the moment.

I don't envisage that the wrong result today will result in the same fate for Lee Johnson or Keith Hill, which befell Kenny Jackett this morning.

The Portsmouth boss missed the chance to see his side retain the EFL Trophy in yesterday's final, and it cost him his job.

That said, Tranmere have won 12 games in 2021, a number only bettered in the top four divisions by Manchester City.
