  1. 'We've still got a fighting chance'published at 15:58 British Summer Time 18 April 2021

    FT: Arsenal 1-1 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham boss Scott Parker speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm disappointed and gutted and the overriding factor is the team have worked tirelessly today, given everything, come to a place like this against a very good side and manged to get our nose in front. Second half we had to weather it a bit and then the last action, I've just seen it back. He [Rob Holding] looks offside to me, he's standing in an offside position. As a consequence of where my keeper is, he's two yards away from the goal line and he's in an offside position - that's what's disappointing.

"We defended superbly, we limited them to few chances. The longer the game was going on I felt we had done well but the residing factor is that late decision and the rules on it."

On the result feeling like a loss: "It does when it comes that close. We wanted to win the game, we needed to win today, we need to win next week and the remaining games. We were so close today so it's been painful. As disappointed as I am now and the team are we'll wake up tomorrow and we will fight again and keep going. You see a team with effort, desire, with spirit and with that we've got a fighting chance."

On looking at other teams' results: "The main focus is our game of course, when you get to this point in the season you always have an eye on other results but the most important thing is us winning games in this division and if we can't we won't stay in it. We've not managed to win today, I feel unfairly.

"I'm immensely proud of the team and the journey they have been on. They've given me everything and people will point fingers and say where we've failed and rightly so but there's one area we have never failed and that's desire and spirit. That's the reason we still have a fighting chance. I'm proud but passion and spirit don't win games. We need to win games, we will try to do that."

    FT: Arsenal 1-1 Fulham

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta speaking to Sky Sports: "We started really well, controlling the game and creating chances, scoring a goal that was disallowed, in a very disappointed way, we kept going and didn't allow any shots on target and suddenly we concede a penalty and the game changes completely.

"We took risks in the right way, we could have scored three or four, we totally deserved to win the match but put ourselves in a difficult position.

"We have to just focus on the boys playing away in Europe and arriving here with the desire to go all the way to the 97th, 98th minute."

On Alexandre Lacazette's injury: "He felt his hamstring so we don't know. We have to rotate players, we have players who didn't recover from the game on Thursday. That is the risk. You cannot change those players every game.

"We had 16 shots, probably not enough on target, goals disallowed, a post, that is the difference, you have to win this game."

Dwight McNeil says he hopes he has proved some people at Manchester United wrong for releasing him seven years ago.

McNeil has made 100 Burnley appearances by the age of 21.

"It made me focused on becoming a professional footballer," he said.

"Hopefully looking back on it, I've proved some people wrong.

"When I look back at how hard it was to become the player I am today, I do surprise myself sometimes, but I have an inner belief."

Manchester United are looking to earn five consecutive Premier League victories for the first time since winning their first six under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January 2019.

All four league defeats this season have all come at Old Trafford.

They were beaten in three of their opening six league matches this season but have lost only one of their subsequent 25.

  8. 'We have to take the positives'published at 15:44 British Summer Time 18 April 2021

    FT: Arsenal 1-1 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham goalscorer Josh Maja, speaking to Match of the Day: "It is a bitter loss, we gave our all to get the win and in the last minute they score a contentious goal - we have to take the positives and go again."

On his penalty: "I practise those in training and was fully confident going in. With the result it is bittersweet, we have to prepare with confidence and courage and hope we can get some better results.

"We all gave our all to hold out Arsenal, we did that for 90+ minutes, it was something we worked on in training, to be solid and stop them scoring - we look at the positives and go again.

"We have to stay focused and confident and remember the good things we do in a game. We're always believing."

Man Utd v Burnley (16:00 BST)

Burnley are unbeaten in their past four league away games against Manchester United (W1 D3). The only team to avoid defeat in five consecutive Premier League visits to Old Trafford is Chelsea, who did so in six consecutive fixtures between 1994 and 1998.

The Clarets can set a new Premier League club record of five away games unbeaten against a single opponent.

Last season, Sean Dyche's side ended a 20-match winless streak at Old Trafford in all competitions. They last won consecutive away league games against Manchester United in the 1961-62 and 1962-63 seasons.

  11. 'We deserved at least a point'published at 15:39 British Summer Time 18 April 2021

    FT: Arsenal 1-1 Fulham

    Arsenal

Arsenal goalscorer Eddie Nketiah speaking to Sky Sports: "Happy with the team, we would've liked three points but when I was called on I wanted to make an impact. I'm delighted to get a goal and salvage a point for the team.

"Fulham made it difficult - we were a bit sloppy in possession, we had good chances, we had a couple which on another day might go in. Credit to Fulham for getting back in the game and getting the goal but we were good in the last 30 minutes and we deserved at least a point."

On stepping in for Alexandre Lacazatte: "Firstly I wish Laca a speedy recovery - he's important to the team and hopefully will be back as soon as possible. For me I stay patient and I'm happy to get the chance to play and I will be ready to help the team if I'm called upon."

On VAR decisions: "That's football - sometimes it goes in your favour and sometimes it doesn't, we can only make sure we do our best as players and VAR is there to do a job so we have to take it. Disappointing to have it ruled out but that's football.

"We're a big club, we want to be climbing up the table - the manner in which we grabbed the goal feels a bit better than losing. Of course we wanted three points but we'll take the point and move on."

    FT: Arsenal 1-1 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham defender Joachim Andersen speaking to Sky Sports: "Disappointed, it is a little bit similar to the Liverpool game, concede a silly goal like that at the end, small things that change the game.

"We showed many times that we can play against the best and it is small things that means we don't win the game, it is just hard now.

"Arsenal were good today and it was a difficult game, you have to understand you have to defend sometimes when you come here, we didn't create enough but if you can win 1-0 away then what more do you want."

    If you missed that story...

Manchester United have changed the colour of the banners covering the seats at Old Trafford from red to black in an effort to win more home games.

"We've looked into this," Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said. "There shouldn't be a reason, really, but some of the players have mentioned that split-second decision you have to make where you look over your shoulder to see if your team-mate is there or not and the red shirt is on a red background with red seats."

  15. Lawro's predictionpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 18 April 2021

Man Utd v Burnley (16:00 BST)

Man Utd v BurnleyImage source, .

I totally get why Manchester United have changed the seat coverings at Old Trafford from red to black to give a greater contrast to the players' shirts on the pitch.

It could be confusing in that split-second when you have to pick a pass and play it, because, when the ball comes to you, you kind of know where your players are. You might think your team-mate is over there on the right, and you end up finding seat number 194.

People have brought up the time in 1996 that former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson told his players to change out of grey shirts at half-time of a game they were losing, but the effect of different colours on players goes back a lot longer than that.

I remember when Peter Shilton started playing in goal in an all-white outfit for Leicester in the 1970s, because strikers would glance at goal, mistake him for a post and try to hit it wider than they needed to.

That was the thinking anyway. Apparently Shilton shimmered so much under the floodlights that he stood out far more than he intended too. He also got very muddy very quickly on the pitches back then - I bet that white kit needed plenty of washing.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-0

Arsenal did deserve to get at least a point out of this game. But it's absolute torture for Fulham - any fan or player who has been down at this level, there are some seasons where fate seems to take a hand. I was worried for Fulham in that injury time - you knew there would be a chance for Arsenal and there eventually was but they worked so hard and tried everything.

But so many times this season they've done everything they were meant to do and still not got a result and when that happens, you tend to go down.
