Carles Alena, the Barcelona loanee, pounces on a bouncing ball and drags it away from Marcelo before taking a touch to set himself, but scoops his left-footed strike over the crossbar.

Marcelo bundles his way through and flicks the ball left, it finds Rodrygo and he cuts on to his right before his effort is deflected behind for another corner.

Nice feet from Isco and he slides a pass wide to the onrushing Álvaro Odriozola, who picks out Vinícius Júnior with a lovely cross. The forward engineers a header goalwards, but David Soria is down well to save.

Real Madrid knocking it around with a bit more composure now, but despite their intricate passing on the edge of the box there is no route through the final line of Getafe defence.

Still goalless as we pass the half-hour mark, but plenty of chances - most of which have fallen to Getafe.

Mariano almost steals in for Real Madrid as goalkeeper David Soria makes a bit of a mess of a ball in the area. It's turned behind for a corner and Getafe survive.

Jaime Mata manages to find a bit of space as he pulls off his marker to flick a curling delivery to towards goal with his head, only to watch it bounce away off the post.

He had Thibaut Courtois beaten there.

Getafe have slowed a touch since that lightning start. They want a free-kick for what looked like a foul by Eder Militao on the edge of the area, but there's nothing given.

Marcelo is starting to get into the game a bit more for the visitors and combines with Luka Modric, but Getafe have bodies behind the ball and mop up well.

Marcelo looks to whip a ball from deep and it's headed away towards Isco. The Real Madrid midfielder tries his luck on the volley from distance, but that drifts off target. Ambitious.

Getafe should really be ahead, they've missed a couple of good chances.

Another drops to Mauro Arambarri on the edge of the box but he can only squeeze a low effort wide of the post.

Getafe are throwing everything forward early on and Mathias Olivera meets a deep free-kick at the back post with just Thibaut Courtois to beat.

The Getafe man can only prod goalwards with his thigh and Courtois saves superbly before Luka Modric hacks away.

The forward takes a touch and turns in the area, but young Real Madrid defender Victor Chust does superbly to get across and deflect the strike behind for a corner.

Zinedine Zidane could do without losing anymore players... Marcelo goes down clutching his calf, but it quickly back to his feet.

Carles Alena looks to fling an early ball into the Real Madrid box but Thibaut Courtois gathers comfortably.

Luka Modric then gives away a free-kick just inside his own half and Courtois has to come and claim another cross from the hosts.
