Women's football is to receive a four-fold increase in financial support from Uefa's revamped Champions League.

The new model, set to be introduced for the 2021-22 season, will ensure 24m euros (£20.8m) is redistributed to benefit the sport across Europe.

Clubs not playing in the Champions League will receive 23% of that figure.

A further change will see Video Assistant Referee technology - previously only available in the final - used from the quarter-finals onwards.

Clubs will also be permitted to make changes to their squad to cover for maternity leave.

Leicester City will lift the Women's Championship trophy at the King Power Stadium on Sunday after playing their first-ever game at the ground.

The Foxes won promotion to the Women's Super League for the first time in their history earlier this month.

They will host Charlton at the 32,000-seater stadium and receive the trophy after the match.

While we wait for the opener in Arsenal's fixture with West Ham, let's catch up on some of the women's football stories you may have missed over the last few days.

Birmingham 0-0 Aston Villa

Birmingham's Ruesha Littlejohn has just gone down for the second time in as many minutes clutching her leg.

The Gunners currently occupy the final Champions League spot with only the top three qualifying for Europe's premier competition.

West Ham are winless in their 14 WSL London derbies to date. Arsenal haven't even conceded a goal in their last 630 competitive minutes.

Everything points to a home win. But stranger things have happened.

The Birmingham goalkeeper comes to claim a looping cross but gets her positioning all wrong.

The loose ball falls to a defender in Blue and is hacked clear. A different bounce and that's 1-0 Villa.

Iwabuchi goes close again!

This time the Japan forward tries to curl the ball into the far corner with the outside of her right boot.

She gets a great connection but the ball doesn't have enough curl and is always sailing off target.

It's all got a little niggly with plenty of cheap free-kicks being awarded to both sides.

On the counter, Mana Iwabuchi fires a shot narrowly wide for Villa. Birmingham haven't got going yet.
