    Real Madrid 0-0 Real Betis

Victor Ruiz does well to deal with a cross from the left which bounces awkwardly in front of him.

Karim Benzema was waiting to pounce behind him in case he misjudged it, but it's good defending.

It would be nice to see Eden Hazard back in action at some point here, but you can certainly understand why Zinedine Zidane would want to be cautious...

    Real Madrid 0-0 Real Betis

Zinedine Zidane will have been well aware of the challenge his side have on their hands this evening as they look to reclaim top spot.

Against no other opponent has Zinedine Zidane suffered more defeats as Real Madrid coach in La Liga than he has against Real Betis.

His side have failed to score in each of their last three home league games against Betis.

It's proving a struggle so far.

    Real Madrid 0-0 Real Betis

Dani Carvajal gets in down the right but he's quickly closed down by three or four Real Betis players and his attempted cross is blocked.

    Real Madrid 0-0 Real Betis

Manuel Pellegrini will certainly be hoping to get a result against his former club.

It's been a decent start by the visitors and Zinedine Zidane's side haven't really got going. Already Luka Modric has given away possession with a couple of poor touches in the early stages.

Sulaimon Adelekan: I don't see Real Madrid winning both the La Liga trophy and Champions League this season, one will have to go for one and in my opinion the Champions League is my best bet because of the club's history in the competition and experience.

    Real Madrid 0-0 Real Betis

Real Betis earn a free-kick in a good position just to the left of the box, but the visitors decide to play it wide and Real Madrid are able to head the cross clear.

    Real Madrid 0-0 Real Betis

Real Betis are of course fighting to secure European football next season.

One point separates Betis, Villarreal and Real Sociedad in the battle for a Europa League place.

  12. Some week for European football...published at 19:54 British Summer Time 24 April 2021

Real Madrid v Real Betis (20:00 BST)

This week has of course been dominated by the announcement - and collapse - of the European Super League.

Real president Florentino Perez has been one of the most vocal advocates of the proposed competition, telling Spanish TV show El Chiringuito de Jugones that it had been devised "to save football".

Before Real's match at Cadiz on Wednesday, there were fan protests outside the ground.

Yet, despite nine of the 12 founding teams withdrawing, Perez insists the ESL is only on "standby" and he has told Spanish newspaper AS that those founding clubs have "binding contracts" and "cannot leave".

Real Madrid v Real Betis (20:00 BST)

Zinedine Zidane makes four changes from Real Madrid's 3-0 win over Cadiz in midweek. Dani Carvajal, Isco, Luka Modric and Marco Asensio start, while Eden Hazard returns to the bench.

Manuel Pellegrini also makes four changes following Real Betis' goalless draw with Athletic Bilbao, which sees Victor Ruiz, Andres Guardado, Joaquin and Diego Lainez come in.

Real Madrid XI: Courtois, Carvajal, Varane, Militao, Nacho, Modric, Casemiro, Isco, Rodrygo, Benzema, Asensio.

Real Betis XI: Bravo, Emerson, Mandi, Ruiz, Miranda, Rodriguez, Guardado, Joaquin, Canales, Lainez, Iglesias.

Real Madrid v Real Betis (20:00 BST)

Real moved above Atletico at the top of La Liga with a 3-0 win at Cadiz on Wednesday, before Diego Simeone's side responded with a 2-0 victory against Huesca a day later.

Barcelona, meanwhile, thrashed Getafe 5-2 in midweek to go third - and Ronald Koeman's side also have a game in hand on the two sides above them.

Fourth-placed Sevilla can't be discounted either, just six points off the top.

There's an almighty title tussle developing in La Liga, and with games running out there's little margin for error for Spain's top sides.

After Atletico Madrid reclaimed top spot with victory over Huesca on Thursday, tonight Real Madrid have the chance to move back to the summit - courtesy of their superior head-to-head record.

So let's see if they can do just that, as they welcome Real Betis to the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.
