Demba Ba retired earlier this week.

Reckon he could still do a job up top for Newcastle?

Joelinton looks to bag but smashes over from 30 yards out.

A man lacking in confidence and needing something to get him going.

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 54 mins

Oh, that is a terrific save.

Karl Darlow reacts superbly to tip away Jamaal Lascelles inadvertently flicking a cross towards his own goal.

It was looping in to the top corner but Darlow sprung high into the air to keep it out.

Give it ten mins for Leeds to go ahead again. Matter of time, Leeds are just so much more slick!

    Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

The game has settled down a little, not as much fun and bluster as the first half.

Gives me enough time to sip on my Vimto.

Going wild on this Friday night.

    Michael Brown
Former Leeds midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Steve Bruce will be pleased with his team's reaction. At one point, it looked like they weren't going to get near Leeds.

  7. CLOSE!published at 50 mins

    Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

Dan James could have made himself an instant Leeds hero.

The Welshman watches a cross all the way onto his right peg at the far post but sends his volley wide.

He'll be disappointed by that, should have at least worked Karl Darlow.

Specs: ASM is just different gravy. He really is. Anyone gonna give Bruce credit... he changed something about 20 minutes ago... handbrake off. What a game! He's gonna put the handbrake back on isn't he??

    Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

Raphinha in the thick of the action again but an outside-of-the-boot cross is straight at Karl Darlow.

Someone remind me what the technical term is for that?

Ricardo Quaresma used to do it a lot.

Ash: Daniel James looking like a bigger waste of money than Jadon Sancho. He should look at what Allan Saint-Maximin is doing and take some tips.

How recent is the thing where players come out for the second half and go through a little warm-up again?

Back in the day they'd be emerging from the tunnel with still a ciggy in their mouths.

The board want Steve Bruce in, the fans want Steve Bruce out. In, out, in, out, survival is in doubt.

    Alistair Magowan
BBC Sport at St James Park

That was a frantic first half. Must be great for the neutral, but the stress levels for Steve Bruce must be through the roof.

How big a goal could that be from Allan Saint-Maximin? It not only changes the complexion of the game, but the atmosphere inside St James' Park, although Newcastle almost threw it away again on the stroke of half-time.

    And breathe.....

    Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

    Michael Brown

You can see Newcastle are leaving gaps. Wonderful first half, but it was all about Leeds. The way they went about the slick passing. Raphinha set the tone. Newcastle settled down, Saint-Maximin was making things happen.

  19. CLOSE!published at 45+4 mins

    Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

Allan Saint-Maximin gives it away this time and Leeds break in a flash.

Raphinha is found free inside the box by fellow Brazilian Junior Firpo, but delays and delays and his shot is brilliantly blocked by Joelinton.

    Brazilians everywhere.

Firpo follows up with a wild shot that is screwed high into the Gallowgate End.

They should really have found the net there.

  20. VAR

Video Assistant Refereepublished at 45+2 mins

    Newcastle 1-1 Leeds

Meanwhile, after the goal there was a VAR check for possible handball because of a scuffle inside the goal.

VAR has a lengthy look but decides it doesn't warrant any further action.
