Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick to BT Sport: "I was fully aware before the game that with this team that we played today, we haven't played together as team. The first half hour we did quite okay. We had a few unforced errors but had control of the game. We should have been 2-0 or 3-0 up. We had some great opportunities but we didn't score. We were a bit sloppy with those situations.

"After we conceded the equaliser we were not defending high enough or pro-active enough. If in the end, the score would have been 4-4, then nobody could have complained. There were quite a few debuts and game time for players who desperately need game time. I wouldn't say I was happy but it was okay.

"It was also good to see Luke Shaw back and hopefully he can be a candidate for the Norwich game. Aaron Wan-Bissaka got two knocks so we will have to see how this develops. It was an experiment but I did it on purpose as I wanted to save the players' energy for Norwich.

"What was a little bit annoying was we gave the ball away and played too many balls into the first line of their area. Whenever we played the ball into the second or third line, we were always dangerous. I told them that before the game but they still played into that first line."

Barcelona

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo told Movistar: "It's a damning result and they had chances to make it worse. We started well but they created a couple of chances and scored. Their first goal knocked our confidence.

"Ultimately, we didn't not qualify because of this game but because of what we did in the other games. We have to keep on working and hope that good things will come for us soon.

"It's true that, right now, we're not among the best teams in Europe.

"If we were, we'd have qualified. Our objective now is to win the Europa League. We have to go out to compete and try to win it."

Manchester United

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a doubt for Manchester United's game at Norwich on Saturday.

The defender went off the pitch right at the end and collided with the advertising boards.

Spanish football journalist Pete Jenson spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live about Barcelona's Champions League exit:

"I don't think people believed in the miracle that was needed tonight and it was clear from the very start that Barca needed goals but they've only scored two in the entire group-stage.

"There's such a gap now between the best teams in Europe and Barcelona, they're in a different league now in the Europa League and I don't think too many of their supporters think they can even win that.

"They've got some serious issues looming, sponsorship deals are running out and they've got financial implications to deal with too.

"They won't talk about it but they were heavily failing two or three seasons ago, it was Messi that was keeping them afloat and in the competitions.

"Even after five games it's clear to see that Xavi has got aspects of Guardiola in him. He's got the charisma and a clear vision. But ultimately if you haven't got the players then you can't put that into action."

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand to BT Sport: "Mason Greenwood's movement for the goal is deft and the finish - bang. His style is much like Robin van Persie. He's elusive, doesn't get pinned by a defender. He knows how to find space."

Craig: I don't care about the amount of changes to the team, that was absolutely pathetic !! Especially the second half !! The entire team just could not be bothered

List of teams to have qualified for the last-16 of the Champions League after tonight's group games:

Group winners: Manchester City, Liverpool, Ajax, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Lille, Juventus.

Runners-up: Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, Inter Milan, Benfica, Salzburg, Chelsea.

The final qualifying spot will go to either Atalanta or Villarreal. That was snowed off tonight. An attempt to play the game will be made on Thursday at 18:00 GMT.

The draw for the last-16 of the Champions League is on Monday from 11:00 GMT.

Barcelona

Barcelona have been eliminated from the Champions League group stage for the first time since 2000-01, when they finished third behind AC Milan and Leeds United.

After falling into the Uefa Cup that season, they went on to be eliminated by eventual winners Liverpool in the semi-finals, thanks to a Gary McAllister winner.

Ex-England striker Peter Crouch on BT Sport: "They’ve got the right man in charge. Xavi knows the club inside out and knows how the youth academy works.

"Their future is youth because they don’t have money to spend, to buy players like they have. They have to build from young players up.

"They have some good one but it’s not going to be a quick process - it could be five potential years. It’s a tough time for them.

"Football moves quickly. You have no divine right to be in the Champions League. They’ve crushed teams in the past. To see them on the slide is difficult to watch. To see them in the Europa League is unthinkable."

Some 25 players have scored three or more goals in the Champions League this season.

Manchester United featured six teenagers - Shola Shoretire, Amad Diallo, Anthony Elanga, Teden Mengi, Charlie Savage and Zidane Iqbal.

It's only the fifth time that's ever happened in a match in Champions League history and the second time by an English side, after Arsenal v Olympiakos in December 2009.

Ex-England midfielder Joe Cole on BT Sport: "This might be a good thing for Barcelona. Having Xavi at the helm, he’ll quell any dissenters. It’s a huge rebuild. I wouldn’t say there are three players – outside the young players – they’d want to keep hold of.

"So they have to bring players in. As long as the fans understand where they are, we could see them back in two or three years. They simply can’t compete in the Champions League with that group of players."

First 20 minutes I'm thinking good energy, this is going to be a good game but then it just stopped.

It just didn't happen tonight for the seniors or the youngsters.

Young Boys were probably on top for 75%.

There's celebrations from Red Bull Salzburg as the full-time whistle goes because they are through to the last 16 as runners-up in Group G with a 1-0 win over Sevilla.

Lille, who beat Wolfsburg, are through as group winners and will be seeded in the draw. They could face Chelsea...
